Locations of NCR Ranger Combat Armor

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:18 pm

Hey, I don't know about you guys, but I've been looking for the Desert Armor (aka the NCR Ranger Combat Armor, the armor the guy on the cover of the game is wearing) for awhile with no luck. I've heard you can get some at Hoover Dam and a few other places, but have any of you actually found a set of this armor? If so, could you give locations of where you found it? Also, I'm friendly with NCR, so I'd love it if a set was in a closet or something, and I wouldn't have to kill an NCR Ranger to get it from his body. Thanks!

I tried looking on Fallout Wiki, but the only way I saw to get it w/o reputation loss (as of after the 23rd) was to reverse-pickpocket a better set of armor onto them. While I hope that would work, my sneak skill is very low (around 20), so I was hoping there was a location in the game where you could find the armor by itself, not being worn by a NPC.

If you get far enough in the NCR story line, you will see Ncr ranger Veterans at camp gulf and the ranger stations.

Supposedly you sneak up next to an NPC wearing the Ranger Combat Armor, then reverse pickpocket a better armor (meaning it protects them more) than the NCR Ranger Combat Armor. Then you leave the area, they will automatically equip the better armor. You come back, and pockpocket the NCR Ranger Combat Armor off of them.

But what I'm wondering is, is there any area thta has JUST THE ARMOR. As in the armor, by itself, sitting somewhere, not something equipped to an NPC.

I read that you can "push" the NPC off a cliff so the fall would kill him - by engaging in convo as you walk him/her backwards; I have not tried this myself and I am quite satisfied with my "Ranger Patrol" armor until I get the Power Armor training, so I do not think I will ever get the cover armor myself.

Well if you piss off the NCR sometimes the hit squad that comes after you in 3 days will contain one of those guys. thats how i got mine but i also hear that camp golf has some later in the story. wish i could confirm that but i have not gone there in a long time.

I was at Ranger Station Delta and saw two of the veteran rangers there.

I reverse-pickpocketed grenades onto each of them without being seen. I incurred no reputation or karma loss whatsoever.

So the sweetest armour, the poster of the game is not available no where to get it without killing some one? Nice, very nice, what a disappointment. How can I role play being a NCR helper.
Only people who can get it easy are Legion dudes, thats lame :( To wear enemy armour.

You can always give it to a store or yourself via the GECK.

Tried that, I cannot pickpocket the armor off them as I get caught every time!

Yeah, probably I am just going to spawn it in my inventory via console.
At least BOS are more fair to my help. They made me a paladin and gave me suits for free.

Console, huh? Too bad I PLAY the game on a console, and thus cannot use the console. Ironic, isn't it?

You can pickpocket c4 onto them and then kill them from a distance, supposedly if you're not seen this won't effect your rep with NCR. I tried reverse pickpocketing, didn't work for me. I ended up just shooting one, ended up with Dark Hero rep.

There must be some way to receive it if you're an NCR ally late in the main quest.. shouldn't there?

I know, it doesn't make sense. Because you're friendly with the NCR, you DON'T get their best armor, but if you're against them, you do? Bull! :brokencomputer:

Sniper rifle + silencer + AP rounds = headshot from 1/4 mile away. No Karma or rep loss at all. Did this at Camp Forlorn Hope at lvl 18.

I did the same thing , but i didnt end up using the armor anyway ,because its a faction armor that essentialy makes you NCR while you wearing it and that didnt go well with my character.
Its a shame really that there isnt a version of it that is faction neutral.

This is one of those lame devs decisions one can see in almost every game. They made it like this just to piss us, really.
The armor is everywhere, sites, wikis, loading screens, but no... you can't obtain it without killing your own friends. Same time you can't use it even if you are enemy to NCR, because your friends are going to shoot you on sight.
I bet there will be some neutral version of the suit with some DLC :S

Yea I'm trying to find a decent armor set that's faction neutral now. Right now I'm wearing NCR Trooper armor. I'd like to find something similar that doesn't tag me as NCR. I'm still low level so anything with a DT of 10 would be sufficient. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Actually, if you get in with the Brotherhood of Steel (you could, for example, find Veronica at the 188 Trading Post, or find one of the Brotherhood recon teams [dead] at, say, the REPCONN offices [not to be confused with the REPCONN test site]), then help them, you can actually join them, receive Power Armor training, and also get your own set of T-45d Power Armor [T-45d is the same type of Power Armor we saw the BoS use in Fallout 3, and the one on the cover of Fallout 3's case]). Power Armor is faction-neutral, gives you a +2 to Strength, a -2 to Agility, and a Radiation Resistance of 10. I'm using that right now.

how do u get it without losing reputation??

Spoiler
i got a free-no rep loss set of armor when the president visited the hoover dam, i saw a bomb on his vertibird, and told the rangers. seconds later a dude wearing the RCA was sniped, leaving me with a rep gain and a set of RCA.

win-win :)
