Lollipop Chainsaw - Buffy the... Zombie Slayer

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:26 pm

All the latest new releases nowadays seem to have a number after them.

Even "Skyrim" is technically "The Elder Scrolls V"

While publishers are happy to throw their money at the latest "Diablo", "Halo", "Gears of War", "Uncharted" etc... it's a shame when the charts are full of the "Same Old..." and there's nothing new.

Until now.

"Lollipop Chainsaw" sees you taking control of Juliet Starling, Highschool Cheerleader and part of a family of ancient Zombie Hunters who arrives at school on the day of her 18th Birthday to find that Zombiegeddon has begun.

The game was envisioned by Suda 51 with Grasshopper Manufacture and collaberation with Hollywood Director James Gunn

The end result is something sparkling and beautiful.

Looks great and plays very well. The writing so far is excellent and full of many dark and humerous twists.

'busty blonde cheerleader sawing through hordes of undead with giant chainsaw' really has "EPIC WIN" written all over it and I'm pleased to see this game lives up to the hype.

So far it's a well rounded labour of love that is complimented with all sorts of collectibles, perks, alternate costumes and surprises that just make it even more fun to play.

If you've not checked it out you really should give it a look.

I think I've seen the commercial for this game. I will be buying it if it's for consoles.

It's only for consoles, unfortunately.

Saw a preview for it, normally not my cup of tea, but with how weird it looks, it seems like you HAVE to experience it some time. So I might get it whenever I get the chance.

Pretty much every character that is male is a smoker, muscle bound idealisation of 'attractive male hero'. I'd say that's equally sixist. :spotted owl:

The thing is, the game 'looks' childish if you think about it- like the name and playing as some busty chick doesn't appeal to some people.

Looks like what would happen if Tarantino had to create a video game.

Just looked like porm to me.

It's an advlt game for advlt gamers.

It makes no secret of it's sixualisation of Juliet and the whole game is very tongue in cheek.

It would not really be appropriate viewing for children because most of them won't be mature enough to understand the themes behind it.

However so far (and there may be mixed feelings about this) there is no porm.

The game is pretty mad and to Western Audiences many Japanese games can seem this way.

This one is very Western Friendly and very entertaining.

I got this yesterday. Haven't play it yet but soon I will start when I fixed some school work. Looking forward to play it since I'm fan of Suda51.

She's voiced by Tara Strong, and the voice is very similar to the one she does for Twilight Sparkle.

Every time I watch something about it on youtube and she says something...

...get out of my head Twilight. :ahhh:

Sorry but you can't have a chainsaw without a boomstick (dubble barrel sawed-off shotgun) it just doesn't work :P.

I would've preferred if I could've played it with the Japanese audio, especially with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eri_Kitamura and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y%C5%8Dko_Hikasa

I can't wait to get hold of it. From what I've heard it does have a very Buffy feel to it, although I have heard the humour falls flat sometimes (but since when does every single joke hit your funny bone eh?). If anyone hasn't seen it, it was the Lollipop Halloween trailer that sold me on it - can't link because of language. ;)
I've heard a lot about the sixism, but the fact that you get to literally fight sixist language within the game kinda suggests it's tongue in cheek to me. Roll on pay day!
