Longsword ONLY build.

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 3:01 am

I'm just curious if having a character wielding ONLY a longsword, unless doing aerial dragon scenarios would be viable throughout the game.
As in, he'd primarily specialize in 1 handed sword usage, no offhand. The armor type I'd ideologically want for this build would be leather, and some cloth, while also
excluding the usage of helms completely. Potion and shout usage is acceptable, but any other "Magical interference" is not.

Basically trying to create a Lan Mandragoran/Blademaster build from the "Wheel of Time" series:

Awaiting your responses, Plightful.

Absolutely.

Your avatar is persuasive enough for me to accept your approval Viking Weapon master. *Does an elaborate bow*

Jokes aside, thanks mate. It'll feel very immersive knowing that I'm hacking down my foes in MY preferred way. :celebration:

I'm considering playing the same way...though I might use a shield despite being an assassin type character.

Bow / Dagger when sneaking

When I'm fighting I'll either use 1h no off or sword and board.

There's no wrong way to play TES. Sure, you can gimp characters, but thats if you deviate too much from combat skills.

Never heard a better response to a thread like this.

I don't get why people ask if their playstyle is feasible.

I don't plan on using shields or magic at all. Sword only, sword and dagger in offhand, or bow.

You're really going to want a ranged weapon. Not just for dragons, but for bandits up on cliffs or guards on walls, and for more heavily armored foes. Since speed is now the same for all people, it will really hurt your "agile blademaster" ideal. Overall you will have a pretty hard time, but it's not impossible if you can dodge arrows and side-specialize in stealth and alchemy.

It's plausible but it kind of svcks. The perk trees just aren't deep enough to specialize in one type of weapon. You'll pretty much exhaust the power of your character at around level 15.

WoT Blademasters use two handed swords, including Lan. He also wears heavier armor from time to time. He's pretty sneaky too, as Warders have to be. I'm doing a Perrin like archetype myself.

It's more a floating paranoia I have in my head since playing a bow user only character in Oblivion..without mods. It was painful for
me to say the least, and I had to redo my character later in the game (Something I don't wish to do in this one). So I thought
I should just receive some opinions, before finalizing my decisions, and saving me some aggravation. I see nothing
wrong with that.

I do agree that there are A LOT of these types of threads floating about..but honestly from what I can make out forumers respond to
more or less the same type of threads more often then ones deviating from the repetitive. (My poetry/rap/ballad sharing thread died pretty
badly).

What's funny is that an archer class would probably be much better for Skyrim than a blademaster class.

Well, I suppose I have a question myself for you guys. Is it possible to still use magic OR dragonshouts while using a sword and shield combo?

Whats funny is people dont know what will happen, and what weapons will be found/made/etc ....and yet we all think we already know.

In OB i found a classic mace, enchanted, that had more damage than my sword, so i changed to mace, and my stats was [censored] in mace/blunt. For example.

 A fellow WoT reader! Anyway, either I decide to go "Rand-like/Sword and magic" or the 2h sneaky leather bound "Warder" type. I'd think the latter would much
better fit my play style. Thanks for all the replies, made my decision. I may experiment with archery later, seeing as sniping does appeal to me too.

Some stuff is probably a little harder with no ranged option, but Im sure you could use Dragon Shouts instead of bow/magic. But even a blademaster, a seasoned and experienced warrior, would recognize that there are some situations where different tools are required(if you need an RP reason to use shouts, lol).

Although however gurdgingly... he would admit to that. I'll just have to sheath "Good Ol' Reliable", and scream at the top of my lungs...revealing my position for the sake of showing
them all the swear words I know in the dragon tongue. :flamethrower:
