According to Amazon, both the Standard Edition and Collector's Edition are 656 pages.

Is there any reason to get he Collector's Edition, aside from it having a hardcover?

That CE Strategy guide indeed looks good. Still can't decide if I should buy it or not.

The interactive map is just this very detailed online map that shows every little part of Skyrim and where everything is. And I mean everything.

So pretty much what uesp will have in a couple of weeks except you pay for it. And maybe it's a bit prettier and detailed, but if it's worth it? I'll leave that up to you.

Not exactly going to work with the Radiant story quests will it.

Still, after reading it, I have been needing a new door stop for quite a while now.

I wonder if it's full glossy, or more of that newspaper type paper.

No, the radiant story side quests won't be in the guide I'm sure. However, the Collector's Edition is more than just a door stop. It's something to display.

This is the part I liked from the Video Game Writers site.

"Hodgson, who also authored the Fallout 3 guide, jokes that Bethesda said the Skyrim guide should be “five times the size.” On the Bethesda blog, he tosses out some numbers that are worthy of paying attention to. Numbers like 2,000 man-hours of work, 656 pages, 550,000 words, 150 maps, and over 1000 screenshots. The first 70 pages alone are dedicated to training, with detailed coverage of the races, archetypes, crafting, mapping, dungeons, combat, a bestiary… the list goes on and on. Packed within these first 70 pages is also tactical advice on using each of Skyrim’s 240+ perks."

Interactive map is online access to a map, that is probably like the in game map BUT gives you all the locations of everything you need to know. that isn't on the ingame map.

So basically the $10 extra for the Collectors Edition (vs Standard Edition) only buys you a hard cover and access to some super detailed maps? All other content is the same it seems?

Big strategy guides are cool now, it doesnt matter if the game needs it or not.
Also, using strategy guides for the first playthrough is like letting your friends explain every detail of a movie to you before you watch it.

Still not sure if I'm going to get it or not. I have a $5 reserve on it right nor but I don't know. I like to find the npc's and quest on my own and I know that if I have that book I won't let it sit there unread which I'm afraid will spoil some stuff I haven't got yet. Still, looks like you really get your money's worth with it.

Here is the link to the official statement from Prima. The hardcover does come with the "interactive map" which actually does look kinda cool according to their screen shots, IDK if it is a deal maker between the standard edition and the CE but its a neat add on. The CE strategy guide also comes with, and I was actually excited about this part, bound in ribbons to mark spots and keep your place without having to "dog ear" pages or use some other bookmark.

The main reason I get a guide is because this game is just TOO massive. I will play it several times without using the guide but on at least one playthrough I would like to see everything the world of Skyrim has to offer. Plus it just makes for a fun read, it always has good information on the world, characters, and lore, along with hundreds of pictures.

Without seeing it I am sure that extra for the interactive map will be worth it. I can't wait to get it now it's a really nice book no question about it.

Well at the price that Amazon charges for it, it seems a no brainer to pick it up. Personally, I more enjoy just reading it, rather than using it, and in fact I've got a pretty sizable stack of strategy guides here, but most of them I forget I even have while playing a game.

I think it's like $10.00 less than buying it on EB or even on the Prima website.

Edit: Oh dang, seems that Paypal is not one of the options to pay for my order on Amazon, darn it.

While I do see the benefits of UESP for PC gamers, it doesn't seem logical for console players. I don't want to play Skyrim with a computer on my lap on one of my playthroughs. Guides are just cool anyway, I mean look at the cover, epic. Plus I'm a svcker for fancy packaging. lol

I always wait for the GOTY editions of the guides as it accounts for balance patches and new content.
My favourite game guide is my Fallout 3 GOTY, excellent quality.
