Looking to buy a new game. Diablo III or maybe Witcher II (3

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:15 pm

Hey everyone, been away for a long time. Laptop went pooched so didn't go online much. Finally got laptop fixed. Was thinking of getting a new game. Son LOVES Diablo II so not sure if I should get Diablo III or not. Hate the idea of constant internet since I am not on the internet alot with this computer. I have an Acer Aspire Dual core 2.0 ghz. I gig of video ram Nivida GeForce 9600 GT Turbo cache (what the heck is turbo cache?). Yes I know it meets medium specs, so no high end performance, but was still wondering if I should give it a try.

Also I was thinking of Witcher II for the 360. I tried playing it on a friends PC but HATED that I couldn't map the keyboard and was actually getting Dizzy and sick from motion sickness from the game. So stopped playing it. How is it on the 360? Is the wierd 3rd person view that was in the PC version the same as the xbox version? Hard to explain since the control shceme seemed so weird on the PC version, I coulnd't manage to play it so never got it for the PC.

So for those guys and gals who bought and play Diablo III or Witcher II on the 360 can you please tell me your experiances on them and what you like and don't like about the game. I gave up on "proffesinal" reviews, yes I know they got High Scores, but want to know what the Beth forums think of them since your opnions matter to me so much more than Gaming review sites.

I would never buy Diablo 3, if only for the 'always online' requirement. No [censored] way Blizzard gets my money when they pull a stunt like that.

The Witcher 2 is an amazing game, anyone who likes RPGs should at least try it. I haven't played it on the 360 myself. To be honest I wouldn't even consider it, as it looks much prettier on a good PC. I liked the controls myself, so I don't think I can give you much help there. Also, it's not a game for your son, if he is as young as I think I recall. Too complex a story for him to enjoy properly at that age.

Thanks for the warning Medivh, that will be a game for me this time, not my son if I get Witcher II. I was so excited to try this game out on the PC, but was so disapointed when I couldn't do it because of the motion sickness. I was hoping being on the xbox, this would not be the case. Just don't want to pay $70 to find out if I am wrong.

I can't vouch for Witcher II as I only played it for like five minutes and I too thought the movement felt strange, though it wasn't the reason I stopped playing(professional procrastinator). However, Diablo 3 is an amazing game as far as I'm concerned. This is from the point-of-view of someone who doesn't play it alone and really plans on spending most of my time with PvP when it launches.

The recent patches have fixed a lot of problem that were present at launch and the upcoming patch is fixing/tweaking even more, so reading opinions from the first day and now are going to vary a bit. Really, though, in my opinion it's a pretty solid game at this point. Servers are stable for me and it's still keeping most of it's shine even though I am getting a bit bored on the third difficulty, Hell, but that's just because I generally don't finish games I play normally let alone the third time over. Note that the always being online part doesn't really affect me as much as others because I don't play the game alone and don't plan to. So I can't say anything about that.

You're welcome. :)

Now that I recall, The Witcher 2 has some pretty advanced graphic settings like motion blur and depth of field. I don't really know what those do, but it might be that they are causing the motion sickness. Perhaps you could check that out at your friend's place if you get the chance. I myself had almost all graphic settings beside texture size and screen resolution on medium to low and it still looked way better than anything else I've played.

I forgot to mention, when if I were to play Diablo III, it would be Single Player. I don't usually play multiplayer games so I don't think I would be playing with anyone else.

Then you'd probably enjoy The Witcher more, but I can't say how it is on console.

"The Witcher 2" is a great game on the 360 and anyone who likes action adventure games should definately give it a go.

The control scheme works very well and is almost as smooth on your 360 as the "Skyrim" menus.

It's an older game but some of the character models and facial renders still look impressive despite the game's age.

It's not really an RPG (if you define that as a game where you can play as the character you want to be) as you can only really play as a (the) Witcher.

That being said with your inventory, weapons, potions etc... and the swords and sorcery themes you can see where people who call it an RPG are coming from.

If you're interested in "The Witcher 2" for the RPG elements I would recommend checking out "Dragon's Dogma" as well. There have been numerous threads about that game and all the fun people playing it are having.

Hope that's helpful.

If you have good internet, get Diablo 3.

I prefer it over Witcher... Didn't really care for it.

Although, you might like Dragons Dogma too...

Witcher 2 any day of the week. Diablo 3 can't hold a candle to it. Unless your thing is boring mindless repetitive killing and zero change from Diablo 2. Seriously, just turn up the brightness on Diablo 2, same game. Just not as dim. People should have just stayed home and stuck a lamp over their heads to simulate Diablo 3 while playing Diablo 2.

Edit
Don't get me wrong. The gameplay is solid, cinematic are amazing, and its a well built game. Just boring as hell grindfest for the sake of grindfest. No innovation or anything. Good for a once through, not much more. Witcher 2 will leave you feeling so much more full and satisfied. Now if your the type of person that loves boring action games, you'll love it. There are some people that do like them. Go have fun with D3. If your looking for a good story go to the Witcher 2 for sure. I think its underrated and easily bests all of Bioware's generic stories.

The Witcher 2 all the way. No way a dungeon crawler matches the depth and narrative sophistication of TW2.

Diablo is still what it was so many years ago: kill, collect, and level up. Comparing a full blooded RPG to a scheme like that is a joke. TW2 is not an 'adventure' game as others have claimed. They are on crack. It is an RPG full of meaningful choices. You wanna kill and collect, pick D3. If you want a game that makes you think, choose TW2.

The Witcher 2 is one of the most mature, in-depth and well crafted RPG's ever created. Diablo III is a repeditive (but still enjoyable) game with some of the most dikeish moves in video game history pulled by Blizzard.

Frankly I'd go with the Witcher 2, and if you want a Diablo-style game, wait for Torchlight 2.

I still call bull.. The Witcher was originally created for Computer, I believe? Should have stayed there.. I prefered Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning over Witcher..
