Looking to buy a new gaming PC - suggestions?

Okay so my 5 year old Radeon 5870 system is starting to show its age. With the next console generation on the horizon I'm thinking its about time I get a new PC. I'm open to either a laptop or a desktop. I do NOT want to do pre-built because I just don't have the time and the last time I built a computer (my current system) I had problems building that I just don't want to repeat. So what suggestions would you guys have for me? My price range is in the $2-3k range for a gaming desktop or laptop that will play anything out there maxxed out, including Skyrim with STEP installed.

That's not so bad. Recently I was pricing out a new system and came up with a figure of about $2300 CAN. That wasn't even top of the line hardware, just a good compromise.

Go for a desktop, they're at least up-gradable. If you buy a laptop, you'll end up having to a get new once it becomes obsolete. With a desktop system you can at least upgrade each component as they start to get old.

But isn't that a good thing? With a budget like that, you can easily overkill.
