I am currently looking for a that will play video/dvd and has a screencapture capability, i am currently using nero showtime 4 on my xp machine but they have stopped making showtime and its been the only decent player ive had so far, but on windows 7 the images are terrible, barely watchable, even on media player they are worse, vlc player is the best so far, but im looking for a commercial player that can do image capturing, anyone have any ideas im tearing my hair out looking for one. And one that works on windows 7.

I have PowerDVD 9 because that's what came with my Blu-ray drive. The image looks exactly the same as Windows Media Player, except that PowerDVD can capture screenshots.

I usually use WMP for DVDs though, since it seems to be less of a performance hog, and it will run DVDs natively without installing anything.

Just use Windows Media Player or FLV and download Fraps.

Actually VLC does image capturing last I checked.

It's so abstruse. It's got a lot of functionality that I just don't know how to use. If OP's lazy like me in this regard, I suggest Windows Media Player and Fraps. X)

I originally used powerdvd wayyyy back in the past but then i couldnt get a new copy, the trial version i downloaded off their site wouldnt even work at all, but i cant use windows media player because its like watching old anolog tv with a very bad reception, and thats running it off a blu ray player and a straight dvd player.

Just download VLC, then. Or VLC and Fraps, if you don't want to spend time figuring out VLC's functions. It's a really good program for watching stuff on, and it's totally free.

VLC will do it but by default I noticed it doesn't have a path for where to save the images in its options so be sure you set that before trying to take the snapshots.

Use GOM. It's far better than VLC and as far as I know, allows for image capture.

I use Corel WinDVD Pro (2010). It has capture support, DVD upscaling support and Blu-ray support.

The default capture save folder is odd:

\AppData\Roaming\Corel\WinDVD\capture\

Saves as a bmp file, by default.
