Looking for gaming HDTV, but am clueless.

Okay, so I'm gonna be in the market for a bunch of equipment soon. Moving into a new place without roommates, need my own stuff, yadda yadda. One of these things is going to be an HDTV, but the last one I used had such horrific input lag (~1/2 sec between me doing stuff and screen showing it) that I couldn't even really play Skyrim without dying because of it. (Let alone, say, Halo)

So, now I'm a bit scared, because this TV's a Toshiba, not some unheard of knockoff brand. I'm looking for cheap-ish, as in less than $400 if possible, optimally with at least 720p native resolution and negligible enough input lag on composite HD that I can play an FPS without the delay causing an issue.

Problem is that I have no damn clue about TV brand quality in the smaller price ranges.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Quick Edit: Did several internet searches and the only things I seemed to be able to find were from 2007 at latest, or were lists of TVs to avoid. >.<
