Looking for help to look for a new monitor!

Post » Thu May 23, 2013 4:15 pm

I previously bought two Eizo Foris FS2333. The first one had serious banding issues, and the second one had a lot of backlight bleeding and extreme IPS glow. Both had mediocre colors.

So... with those two FS2333 returned, I'm still looking for a new monitor. I have some requirements though:

- must have very, very good colors

- must work for games - Skyrim (so not a lot of ghosting)

- no banding issues (Skyrim has much banding in the sky already, so if the monitor has a weak spot for this, it will look even more jarring. This is very important to me, as I am making a weather mod for Skyrim. I want to be able to look at the skies without thinking about the bandings)

- very little or zero (if that's possible) backlight bleeding. The previous FS2333 looked absolutely awful when it was nighttime in Skyrim; the blacks were glowing dark blue.

I'd truly appreciate any help offered, as I am a little lost now. The FS2333 had gotten superb reviews everywhere, so I'm not sure what to do anymore if I can't trust hundreds of reviews.

My budget is around 220-520 dollars. The monitor can be 23-27" size.

I originally thought about Dell Ultrasharp 2412M, but I'm unsure about it now since I've read it can have quite a bit of backlight bleeding...

Many thanks for the links. Still, I'm not sure how much I can trust reviews. FS2333 had like 9.5-10/10 in all reviews, yet I had very different experiences with it (I'd give it a 6.5). I'm not sure what to do really, especially since Dell Ultrasharp 2412M has great reviews too.

Banding and blacklight bleeding can be exacerbated by having the monitor in Torch Mode (out of the box settings). Most monitors are best at around 50% brightness and 80% or so contrast. Although the last can go higher and lower.

I don't want a monitor where you have to force specific settings for it to not to suffer from major problems... I want to calibrate the monitor to look the best without any problems.

Thanks for the reply! It looks good, but I'm very unsure about Eizo after two major letdowns from the supposedly superb FS2333...

I wonder if there is anyone on the forum with ultrasharp 2412M that can confirm or deny my fears of backlight bleeding, and how the colors look on it.

How about Dell UltraSharp U2713HM? 2560x1440 resolution, H-IPS, etc.

It's too (slightly) expensive and have some really bad reviews. A lot of backlight bleeding and yellow tint: http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B0093IW14I
