looking for insight on skill level at each level.

In particular I'm interested in Magic levels at a specific character level, in order to find a well balanced formula for a magic mod I'm working on.

For instance, I was going to assume 85% of my experience gained per level is magic based. From there, I'm further assuming 25% is destruction based, 20% is restoration, 15% is alteration, 10% is conjuration, and 7.5% for enchanting and illusion.

Now I was going to take this and after a lot of spreadsheet formulas find the average skill level at each character level to make sure this was accurate.

However I thought I would check her to see if you guys think this is a fair assumption to make. I do know that not all spell casters will have the same distribution, some may use more illusion/conjuration of course but I'll start with this distribution at first and adjust later.

Do you feel the bolded section is accurate for an offensively slanted magic user?

Illusion and Enchanting can be much greater depending on what kind of magic user you want to play.

More melee based, I'd say enchanting should be more, Stealth is definitely more illusion. If you're talking about purely spell casting though, Restoration, in theory, could take a backseat to Conjuration and Alteration.

I would need to know how you play more.

Well for this distribution I'm basing on a pure magic user, no stealth. Light melee at early levels until magic pool is larger. Think I should switch restoration to .1, conjuraton to .2 and keep alteration at .15?

Like I said, It depends how you play. I know that Restoration is invaluable to one character who mainly uses Destruction and Restoration and who heals all the damage taken. Another Character uses Conguration to somewhat tank and deal damage while he peppers the enemy with Destruction Spells. Alteration is good for Survivability with magical armor, Spell resistance and Absorption, and allows you to pinpoint where unknown enemies are via detect life. Also, if you can use Paralyze it can combat much more easy.

Also, will you be using armor, or just clothing?

Assume clothing once entered into the college of Winterhold. Thanks for the responses madcat, I think I'll lower restoration and raise conjuration as it seems more effective to let a minion help and use wards occasionally than it would to heal.

Glad I could help. I love character crafting in the Elder Scrolls.
