Looking for tips for editting spells.

Hi all, I'm looking for a way to allow Novice level destruction spells to regenerate magicka while casting. So far the only way I've found to be able to do that involves adding a drain magicka effect line to the spell effect, unfortunately this changes the animation and causes the screen to go dark blue when you're actually hitting a target with the spell.

Any ideas? My knowledge of scripting and modding is admittedly shallow so any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Additionally, is there any way to change racial powers from 1 per day cool downs to shorter, more reasonable cool downs?

This is something you have to add for the Novice level Destruction perk.

As for the last one..not sure on that.

Perk > Destruction Novice00 > From here you can see the entries(the current one being the half cost entry). Right click and choose new. You'll get a box where you can add a new entry. Select the circle that says abilities and you'll get a drop down box of all the abilities/etc you wish to add.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. This is something I had looked at already, but I must be missing something. I can't seem modify the perk to allow these spells to allow magicka regeneration while casting. I can of course reduce the cost to nothing, but it won't allow me to let these spells actually restore small amounts of magicka, at least not that I can see, but as I mentioned my modding experience is fairly shallow so I may well be missing something.

The information is wrong. I did not see any ability or entry point indicating a way to add regen magicka. Before I even suggested that, I thought about the idea of having to add this ability to all novice level spells, via magic effects(that'd take a lot of time).

Yeah. I'm exploring doing it through magic effects right now but it's giving me trouble. I'm not trying to make every novice level spell free, just the novice level destruction spells. It's something I'm willing to put the time into. That having been said, so far I've managed to get a flames spell to drain magicka from targets, which is essentially what I want it to do, but no matter what I do I can't seem to remove all of the animations involved in the drain magicka effect. When the spell is successfully draining magicka from a target the screen goes dark blue which makes it very difficult to see. Ideally I'd like to remove the dark blue hue but I set all of the animation options to "none" and it doesn't seem to work.

EDIT: I've managed to get it to work. It was just a matter of removing a script associated with the magic effect.
