Looking To Join A Modding Team

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:30 pm

Ever since the Skyrim release today at 12 AM, I have been curious about developing mods for this game. I have extensive programming experience in C++, Java, Flash, HTML5, PHP, CSS, and Python.
Please reply if interested at all. I am very. :D.

Be aware that most modding teams have a habit of falling apart.
You may honestly be best branching out on your own (or helping, perhaps, with programs such as Wrye Bash for Skyrim, if possible.)
Edit: That said, don't let that discourage you, if you can find a team that appears to be reliable go for it, however I would suggest caution.

I would wait a little while and see what mod takes your fancy and what you enjoy. You might find something you want to change without being in a modding team. There are a few mods hoping to port over to Skyrim. Mine and MERP to name but two.

With programming experience you'd probably make a bigger impact using that experience to work on utilities rather than mods, though you might not enjoy that, so it would be missing the point to do that.

I think that the sort of modding teams that you'd want to join (ie. the ones that don't fall apart) are those composed of experienced modders. So it's probably best to get a bit of individual experience that you can then bring to a modding team later.

I'd also suggest that you start off small. Don't go with something that's well within your abilities, but don't go for something too ambitious either. My first attempt was the latter, and it was a lesson in humility. :P

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not including programming teams in with modding teams, they're a separate thing. By modding, I mean here modifying the game itself. Since you have programming experience, programming/utility teams will most likely happy for the help.

Join a modding team such as OBGE-Skyrim/OBSE-Skyrim/BOSS-Skyrim or Wrye Bash-Skyrim, but only what you're interested in and how to know is what you have for impression about the people in the community.
