this is my first time getting computer parts and I'm in need of help on what to get to play Skyrim on high to ultra
i was thinking of getting this
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/EVGA+-+GeForce+GTX+560+1GB+GDDR5+PCI+Express+2.0+Graphics+Card/2843091.p?id=1218356322893&skuId=2843091
as my graphics card
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/AMD+-+Black+Edition+Phenom%26%23153%3B+II+X2+Dual-Core+Processor+560/2384114.p?id=1218325914743&skuId=2384114
and this as my processor
are these 2 good on running Skyrim on high or ultra and what else do i need?

Those should be enough, but skyrim is badly optimized for newer graphic cards so you need to wait for the first patch to actually be able to play it on ultra

How much RAM you have? I'd say 4-6GB would be enough, this isnt really needy game.

I have the i7-950, got it brand new for $300 about a year ago (8 logical processors, 3.06 GHz). But there are newer and better ones out now. I would suggest something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070. Something cheaper like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115076 even. But again, its all preference

For that price, AMD might be a better choice for you (if you want a quad core), but if your fine with dual core, then http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115065 is ok

I honestly dont know. If skyrim only uses 2 core (its possible), then yes. But if you need a quad core to run on ultra then the processor will prevent you from Ultra. The Graphics card is good though.

yeah you SHOULDN'T need a amazing graphics card. but as others have said its badly optimized. i have 5870 when i pump shadows on ULTRA get a massive fps drop. out in the wild my fps is usually 60fps but in some cities can drop to 30s which is odd. this shouldn't happen since its a console port and graphics aren't anything ground breaking.

I'm not seeing this bad optimization on newer GPUs. I have a 6950 and have had no problems maxing it. Nor have I seen any slow down.

I have the 570 gtx overclocked, and i get 60 fps MOST of the time. Occasionally i get random drops to 45 fps or so and then it jumps back up to 60 after ~ 5 seconds.

I'm running a Phenom 550BE with a 5770 1GB card. 4Gb ram on a Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P.

I can run this game on ultra high (slight lag occasionally) as defaulted by the game.

As you are building something similar with that better card, you will run on ultra, nice and smooth. :foodndrink:

Check that your board is decent. It can make a world of difference.

Any reason why you don't want to buy online? I've purchased parts for my last 2 systems from newegg.com, and its been a wonderful experience dealing with them. Returns are very easy if you get a defective part. Not only is it cheaper, but they have a much better selection of parts.

If you really are against buying online, if there is a Micro Center close by, I'd suggest them. Really, anything is better than Best Buy.
