Is LOOT dependant on anything?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:35 pm

Hi!

I was just wondering if the LOOT you get from containers and even enemies is dependent on anything, or is it totally random? (except for recurring quest NPC's and containers)

it seems like i've heard of people not getting certain types of items/weapons/supplies for a long time into the game, and others not until they seemed to have already found a type of that item on the quest npc's/enemies-

So is loot dependent on anything?

(I know about certain Perks that let you find more of stuff, that's not what i am talking about)

Like what your actual stats are?

What level you are?

Where you have already traveled?

etc. etc

just wondering- but i know i will never find out form a dev, as it seems they have stopped responding at all to any questions about the game..

to bad for those of us who really enjoy the game...

Most loot (i.e. what you find hanging around on shelves) is not dependent on your level. Random loot in containers can be. What shows up in vendors' and some random NPCs' inventories usually is tied to their or your level. You can get most of the powerful weapons right away because they all have non-random instances in places. Aside from Unique Weapons most are going to be in a bad state of disrepair though and getting to some at low levels is brutal.

makes sense!

i had noticed that some weapon mods don't show up at vendors until you seem to be higher in level also..

and after i finally found a certain gun type, all of a sudden vendors carried the bullets/cases i needed for that gun where as they didn't offer them before i found the gun

The rewards for putting points into skills like science and lockpick are really low too. There's almost nothing worthwhile behind hard and very hard locked doors or containers. It's really irritating when you finally open a 'hard' door you've been investigating for a while only to find some shelves with random junk and maybe a vegetable if your lucky. It's a complete waste of effort.

i hear ya!

if you were at a lower level, at least you could get some good experience points by lockpicking/hacking, but by the time you get to the point your skills are high enough to be able to lockpick a "hard" or "very hard" lock, the experience you get for doing so is not so big a deal as when you were at a lower level..

i agree, they should make all "very hard" lokcs/hacks really worth it!

I’m not sure about NV, as I’m still on my first character, but in FO3 it “seemed” that characters I played with a higher luck stat found more goodies.

Interesting thought, I hadn't really noticed that in FO3. Oblivion definitely worked like that though. Hmm, playing now with 6 Luck like most of my FO3 characters so maybe they messed with the balance in NV.

Luck and level affect loot tables from randomly generated containers.

The rewards from lockpicking and science are most affected by these two, but there are some places that have hard-set loot that never changes and can only be taken once. The most annoying thing about lock-picking, though, is the couple of hard/very hard locked containers that are EMPTY. Who the hell locks an empty container?!

Yeah the 'eff you' door in FO3 was funny because it happened once and was really in your face when you found it. The empty hard locked stuff feels like an 'eff you' moment without the comedy, and it happens over and over.

A 100 in Science can get you by some hurdles much easier now and again. I always pick Lockpick myself though. Off the top of my head I know of two Unique Weapons in NV that are behind Hard and Very Hard locks. You just have to look.

I've picked up the Gobi Campaign Sniper Rifle, it's not really 'special' compared to a regular Sniper Rifle though, and if I mod the Sniper Rifle it's arguably better than the Gobi.

Something like a couple of mini nukes and a Fat Man would be nice.
