Loot Ninja

Post » Sat Oct 26, 2013 10:58 am

I apologize if this topic has been done before and if new information on it has been revealed but ive been out of the loop for a while now and I just got to know...

... who gets priority on which loot in parties? Due to the system that you can use anything, surely your going to have people, especially in pug groups, trying to claim everything?

There is no loot distribution, everyone gets his own loot. The loot drama you ask about, is an obsolete design flaw

I wouldn't say flaw. just a different way of doing it.

Aye, you are correct, it is human element that generally fails here. Organized groups used it very well

Nope, I totally would say flaw. Much as certain folks like to think they're better than the 'great unwashed' for playing games that had this mechanic and managing to deal with it, it was simply not a good design decision. Why create a problem, when separate loot tables is inherently more fair?

Disagree, in my MMO experience the greed/need system has always been a recipe for disaster, think about it, you have a fun experience killing the enemies and bosses in a dungeon, then it comes to an item dropping that more than one person needs.
The person who doesn't win a lot of the time would either flip out, start insulting/acting aggressive towards the player that won, it destroys any teamwork and collaboration that occurred prior to the roll.
Of course that doesn't happen all the time, but the ESO system at least avoids any player to player loot conflict, hopefully making a friendlier community.

Just a question about this system. Will loot be completely random? Or will the system detect your playstyle/equipment and give you loot accordingly? And if it's random, will you be able to sell loot?

Sure, but it is a way that isn't ninja proof. They just click need on all items and ruin everything.

Totally random, and per person so long as you "contribute" sufficiently to the take down of the mob.

Ah sweet, I love the fact it's random. Makes it more easy to switch between playstyles!

A bit similar to how Rift handled loot distribution on taking down Rift's. They made a system in which those who contributed the most and were there from the start got the biggest loot pile. But everyone got something as long as they helped.

Which is why some claim the old system is better, simply more ways to grief others, think about it there is nothing else to it!

The only thing I can think of now is that it is easier to get the items you really need. In ESO it is random and you might get items that you don't really need. Not 100% how it will work, but usually I'm not a fan of 100% RNG. I love how everyone that contributes gets something. But I'd hate to see some item that I need go to someone that doesn't need it. Again, not 100% sure how they will deal with this.

It triggers people to go trade after the dungeon though. And if you run it with people you know it's easy to swap around the pixel goodies . EDIT: If you can trade the items that is.

Seriously doubt you can trade high end raid items. Would remove the challenge to actually raid yourself with alts or w/e. Wouldn't be right that rich players can buy everything in an instant.

Simples. You need that magic helm of awesome your teammate just scored and won't use? Invite him to trade for something equally valuable. If he's just gonna AH it anyways, everybody wins. Or if he won't give, just run the dungeon 'til it drops for you too.

'nother easy fix. Set minimum level requirements for high-end gear.

Still no goods imo. A fresh 50 can still just buy everything. Imo you have to work for high end items. Trading them will remove the urge to raid for it and to progress.

Assuming everyone wants to pay/play without any achievement/challenge! I for one would rather 'earn' something as compared to buying or trading it!

Hence the VP system. Fresh 50s will still need to earn the right to use some junk. The point is that it's earned through levelling, not through grinding. They're easing up on the RNG gear grind big time, and me very likey. Skilled players are now those who make smart gearing choices, not those who simply have no job.

Even if you can decide to not just buy it and work for it yourself, knowing that it is possible still makes your work feel like wasted time. That is how I personally feel about it though. But nvm that, this VP system I didn't know of yet sounds good to me. :)

Ah there we go. I haven't heard of this VP system yet. (Damn I'm uninformed ) Is it just about regular leveling up, or also with leveling up skills and other stuff? If so, than that is something I like very much as well. I'm for having to work to achieve something.
