Lost my E-mail

Post » Wed Oct 24, 2012 1:21 pm

Some might remember that I created a topic sometime back about getting some e-mail saying that my WoW account has been closed. Funny since I don't have a WoW account.

Anyways, I have a some emails I have to send and am waiting on so I can find a new job. So I signed up to my Hotmail account today and it says "Someone else might be using your account, please help us know its you." So long story short I had to make another e-mail account so they can send me a password so I can unlock my Email account.

I had to fill out a bunch of info to prove its me. But since I created the account like six years ago I can't remember if the info I put in matches the info off my account. It said it could take 24 hours for them to decide if I am who I say I am.

So has anyone had to deal with this crap? Cause if I just lost my email account I am going to be pissed.

I had a Yahoo account that I had never changed the password on in 6 years. I kept ignoring the reminder until one day I said, "screw it, let's update it". Of course, 6 months later I can not remember the password I used when I changed it, but I can remember the one I always used. This is what I get for having my browser remember my passwords, then formating my PC. There are probably 200 emails in that Inbox by now.

Ouch. Both of those things svck. This is (one) reason I now use a password manager (Keepass) and back up the database file to my Google Drive.

I don't get why it would lock out my account for not updating my password. Freaking svcks because I use that email for alot of things. Like I said I have resumes out there with it. If I don't get it back I'll have to do alot of work shifting stuff over to the new one.

I do this, but I use Dropbox in addition to Google Drive. KeePass is awesome, I highly recommend it. If you're like me and usually pick simple passwords or use the same one for all your accounts, you'll be glad you got KeePass. Now all my PW's are strong (according to KeePass), and I only have a couple repeats in my two dozen or so accounts.

Gmail can get finnicky when i log into my account in more than one IP address, but it hasn't closed or locked me out yet.
