Lost save game files after Windows reinstall

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 3:17 am

Hey
Couldn't find anything in search
Basically I reinstalled windows 7, formatted HDD and didn't back up Fallout NV files thinking they were kept on Steam Cloud.
Installed Fallout and no saved games detected.
Any way of getting them back from Steam? or do i have to redo my 36hrs of gameplay?

cheers

The Steam Cloud was disabled for a bit while they fixed some bugs.....assuming you didnt overwrite the clusters that the game save was written on...you may be able to recover it.

First thing to note is your game saves are located in My Documents>My Games>FalloutNV>Saves

The easiest and quickest way to check to see if you can recover them is to use the shadow volume built into Windows Vista/7. Even if you reinstall the OS you can get in here and recover files.

Download http://www.shadowexplorer.com/ and navigate to the save games. Then simply copy them over to the newly installed OS in their correct location.

Thanks mate.
Tried Shadow Explorer but it only shows files since after i reformatted.
Luckily I found a back up My Docs (due it being my previous holding area for random crap).
Never thought the save files would be there, but they were.
Everything is gonna be alright.
