Low Framerate

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:58 am

Overall, the games runs wonderfully - I have a Mobility Radeon 5850, 1.8 i7 CPU and 8 gigs of Ram, and I am able to run the game very well on High. However after playing the game for 5 minutes, every 15-20 seconds or so, the frame rate dramatically drops, then returns to normal. What can be causing this?

Could be overheating.

Try monitoring your GPU temps.

Depends on what hardware you have.
Also, it happens quite frequently that your graphics card can initially handle it with it's current RAM, while after a while the modules are full and it tries to forcedump them, making room for new items to be loaded.

Grab yourself a cope of MSI Afterburner. Set up a custom fan profile so that as soon as your GPU gets near 70 degrees the fan ramps up. I have mine set so that if it gets to 75 degrees the fan will go to 100%

I'm using a 5770 btw. It runs happily under load at 70 degrees for hours at a time with no issues.

Below 80-95 C is preferrable & I dont like seeing temps even that high on my desktops cards. You will usually get artifacting ( weird geometric shapes &/or colors and lines across the screen if your video is overheating. If your seeing 90 C + on your video and/or 80 + on your processor while gaming its not good.

My average is around 90C, which is high, but it is a consistent problem with my model (HP Envy 17). But I never had this problem before.

Mobility hardware is pretty crappy, my Dell laptop runs Call of Duty Black ops like crap so I don't even bother with it. Always good to have a desktop for the real gaming rig.

I run the game solidly at 40fps on high (AA switched off) most of the time, so my hardware definitely meets the requirements. Its another problem.
