Low quality voices (German)

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 12:12 am

No idea ... I'm playing without headphones for now, and with a little more bass, it's bearable, but still nowhere near good.

I downloaded the english voice files an i wonder that the voices.bsa is 1,35 GB and the german voices.bsa is only 1,16 GB.
As Grappa's Hammer wrote, the german sentences tend to be longer. So why are those files more compressed than the english ones?
I played with the english version now for a while and i have to say that the quality of those voice files is much better than the german ones.

That'd confirm our thesis then.

Hi, I have the same problem with the german voices. I hope every german with the same problem will write a comment here ^^. Until this is not fixed i can′t play the game. I was so looking forward to the game and this makes the atmosphere totally broken. I hope someone from Bethesda can tell if it will be patched. If not that would be pretty annoying. I can′t even sell the game, because my key is used on steam now. Normally this belongs to the Customer-Service ^^

QA is a lie.
I think it doesn't even exist anymore.
That's my theory.

If this game would have been QA Tested most of the obvious bugs wouldn't be there.

When I played though the main quest broke twice and I had to install mods/use the console to get past those sections.

I can understand the fact that skyrim is an open game so I could forgive weird hard to replicate bugs like the giants launching you into orbit or getting stuck in some terrain geometry. But the MAIN QUEST??? How do you not test the MAIN [censored] QUEST!!??

ALL of the streamed audio in the game is packaged at a GODAWFUL 48kbps WMA, that's even worse then Morrowind's sound quality which is just sad. I'm guessing they sacrificed a significant amount of audio quality to cater to graphics [censored]s. I can't even stand the music because of how blatant the compression artifacting is :C

same issue for me :( , I bought the collectors edition and I'm a big fan of TES since a played Morrowind.

I dont understand why the german localisation is so bad encoded. I play with headphones and the sample quality of the voices is disgusting ! It looks like a some hearing impaired person done the final QA. The issue could be clearly heard instantly !

I hope Bethesda will provide us the original quality german speech files soon, I have no problems to download additional 2gb or more f needed

it would be a shame if this a great game would be ruined by such a avoidable accident !

Well i am suspecting that there could be an issue with sound card drivers. So you should reinstall the sound card drivers on the computer and see whether you are able to fix the issue which you have mentioned over here.

If you are playing on steam then you can reinstall it on English.

This isn't the point, still. Read the thread before posting useless stuff like that.

That wouldn't fix the problem at all, just work around it. Though there are many german players who especially want to play in their naitve language this can't be a solution, neither that the low quality of the german sound files is something that the players have to accept without discussing or complaining about.

I wonder why quality assurance at Bethesda has been established and why they apply double standards.

Is there something new about this issue - because I have the same problem and it′s really annoying...maybe a modder (audio/music producers, etc) could work on the audiofiles to cut away the background noises...

There's nothing new about it and I guess it won't ever be changed/fixed. It was horrible at first, but I have to confess that you're quickly getting used to it. Sure, it's really sad to know "The voices on my PC just sound bad because they could not fit more on an XBox disc!" but voice files you hear regularly (guards, etc.) are not heavily compressed. Mostly stuff you'll only hear once.
