Lydia's actions after 1.2 patch

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 8:08 pm

After downloading the 1.2 patch, I haven't encountered backward flying dragons, and my frame rate is improved enough to play, but I've noticed an issue with Lydia that needs to be fixed.

Lydia is currently my housecarl, and stays in my house in Whiterun, after the 1.2 patch she's seemed to develop an extreme case of A.D.D. Before the patch she would walk around the house, and do other things. Now she stays in the large bedroom upstairs, at the table in the corner. She seems to have a problem making up her mind about whether to sit or stand. She sits in the chair, and stands back up, sits in the chair, and stands back up, sits in the chair and stands back up. Over and over again she keeps doing this, and she can't seem to do anything else. I don't dare ask her to follow me because followers in an Elder Scrolls game are just useless, since you have to get so close to your enemy to fight them, and usually you'll end up turning your follower hostile toward you. Before the patch she never had such an extreme case of A.D.D. so I'm guessing the patch did something to her.

I haven't noticed any change in her actions but she gets hurt very easily and slumps down after just a few enemy hits.

This isn't a thread to talk about whether one should or shouldn't take off Lydia's clothes, it's to report a possible bug caused by patch 1.2 and to figure out if anyone else has this issue with her.

Ive not seen it. i went to my house too sleep at around 7:30pm(in game) and she was going to bed. Or standing in her room, rather.

The only issue I've had with Lydia so far was her getting stuck in a brawl diaglog loop. Telling my character to keep his hands up, where'd he learn to fight, blah blah blah for about a half hour. Wouldn't follow me in a fast travel since she was busy bouncing like a boxer in a fight. Had to dismiss her to have her regain her sanity upon rejoining.

I'm getting the same bug. She stands and sits over and over and over. I was able to break the cycle by telling her to follow me.

Did you tell her to follow you, then tell her to stop following you? Because I really don't want any followers, if she doesn't stop sitting and standing, I'm going to have to cut her head off.

I'm afraid I don't have Lydia anymore. She died when I went to explore the college midden. We were fighting some enemies on the stairs and I must have hit her by mistake, now she's gone forever :(

I do have another bug in the Breezehome house at Whiterun though. I put some books on the top shelf of the bookcase, including the "home decorating" book and now it won't let me activate the bookshelf at all or read or remove any of the books. Sometimes when I press X on it the book becomes invisibly linked to me and when I move left and right the book moves left and right along the shelf as though it's tracking my movement. I didn't know I could do telekinesis!!

I had that problem with Lydia before the 2nd patch. I believe it's a known issue, at least on the Elder Scrolls wikis.

PS., it seems to happen on certain times of the day. Some times Lydia will be in her room, and other times just outside it. It's usually in the daylight morning hours when she'll go into the master bedroom and start her sit-down-stand-up cycle. For a time I managed to fix her by talking to her, and what she did was sit down and have a bite to eat, so this might be related to the hours when she has her meals. Morning, noon and night. Haven't bothered to test it because it's not a big issue, just annoying.

She does the same thing in my file. As someone said, just ask her to follow you. Then tell her to stand in her bedroom. That's what I did in the beginning half of my game. I then proceeded to recruit her to another faction so she's gone and I don't have to see her sitting and getting up (x4456).

Hmm followers are useless? I hate when people make false statements like this. Followers are obviously not useless, Lydia did lots of things for me until I pushed her off a cliff to her death sadly,

its always been like that, its just the AI...

This is where I cut beth some slack,

AI, is the hardest thing for game programmers..

Least of our problems its a glitch, Jack, just an AI glitch. I have her follow me, then tell her to sit in the chair in front of the Hearth..

Well prior to 1.2 when their was things to do in my house...

Most likely it just randomly happens, patch or not. It happened to me once, but now she isn't doing it.

False statement? Let me rephrase that, it is my opinion that followers are useless in an Elder Scrolls game. Followers always got in the way in Oblivion, and in the heat of battle when the steel is swinging, and the magic is flying I always ended up turning them hostile and killing them. Sure they're pack mules, sure they can help out sometimes, but me personally I'm not fond of followers.
