Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 6:02 am

so i picked this game up because yet again the stores i went to did not have saints row 2 ...

any way i like it so far, the music reminds me of fallout 3 (that was an effing amazing game)

any way my only problem is my car keeps spinning out of control when i try make semi sharp turns

(driving is set to simulation because im use to playing GTA 4 which was pretty much a car simulation unless i got the wrong idea on what this game means by simulation i didint get an instruction manual with the game just a copy of the map...)

are there alot of guns to be found in this game or just the pistole scopeless sniper and the assualt rifle ? (from the army segment of the game at the very beginning) oh and your fist :/

can i go any where i like ignoring the main mission or will palces be cut off from me till i progress (like GTA games)

how do i get money apart from doing missions ??

Honestly, I didnt like this game. its an open sandbox game, but it keeps you on a leesh as it drags you through the missions, not letting you just explore the world. Driving is terrible (Ugh the mechanics @_@) The game does have a nice collecton of guns, but way to much music. I never listened to the radio cause of 3/4 the soundtrack.

Mafia 2 is nothing like GTA - there is almost nothing to do outside of the main story missions. In fact, the only thing I can think of is selling cars for money at the docks or the scrapyard.

The driving is difficult because they're not modern cars that your driving. Expect plenty of understeer, slow acceleration and spinning out.

Just approach the game as a linear story-driven shooter and you'll enjoy it. Just don't expect anything more, or for there to be anything to do once you finish the story.

What disapointed me most about Mafia 2 was that, unlike Mafia 1, you don't have the freeride option and there's no way you can play one specific chapter to your heart's content. It's pretty linear. Yes, you can visit parts of the city, but you are pushed forward to play the game instead.

I thought the game was amazing. Took about 10 hours for me to beat it playing straight through the story. There's a few ways to make money, mostly selling cars or robbing businesses. The story itself is like a bunch of scenes from different mob movies. I found the character Joe to be named appropriately. He reminds me of Joe Pesci from The Goodfellas.

Well, like EvilFish said, there's next to nothing to do outside of the main story missions. Effectively it's a very linear game poorly disguised as an open-world game. It's fun enough, but don't expect a GTA clone.

It's a very linear game set in an open world, like the first Mafia. It's not a disguise, it's considering the city as a character rather than a playground

Did nobody buy the DLC? It basically adds a Sandbox mode.

there's a wide assortment of guns that will eventually be unlocked

they don't really start appearin g though until a mission called "The Buzz Saw"

I recommend you buy the .357 magnum in that mission, and keep as your side-arm, love that revolver :P

by the end of the game you'll have Both types of Thompsons, M1 Gerand, Colt. 1911, German Mauser, .357 magnum, Grease Gun, MP40 (I think) Pump Action Shotgun, Bolt Action Rifle, Molotovs, grenades and your fists

the game is a bit linear, but still quite good.
a word on the driving, I love the driving in Mafia II a lot but you're going to have a hard time pulling off tight turns, you'll have to slowing down way before the turn to do it.

if you really want a sandbox mode in Mafia II you should pick up Joe's Adventures, my problem with this though is that most of the missions are on a time limit due to some arbitrary scoreboard
many a frustrating times not being able to finish a mission because of some bogus time limit.

I thought the story was good, but not fantastic. Vito, to me, felt like a push-over and a co-dependent lemming. The entire story revolves around Joe getting Vito into crazier and crazier situations entangling them in the Mafia and not once does Vito ever turn to his friend and finally say

"you know what man? you're crazy, and I'm not doing this [censored] anymore" despite complaining through the entire game that he hates doing this stuff.

I bought Joe's Adventure. It does kind of stand in for free-ride, but I was disappointed with the annoying GTA-style 'frustration=difficulty' missions.
It'd also be nice if you could discard weapons. I ended up having to go through a ton of junk just to select the weapon I wanted to use.

Edit: Heh, seems I'm not alone in that sentiment :P

I liked the game I enjoyed it but it could have been better with a "free ride mode" and being more sandbox and less linear.

The music sounds like the stuff from fallout 3 just less apocalyptic sounding (has white Christmas on there).

Fixed. ;)

Its like driving through a very wide tunnel. To do anthing you have to move forward, but lots of room to go around in between here and there.

Why does every single game remind you of Fallout 3?
