After looking on uesp wiki for more details at items, mages didn't get much in this dlc.

I don't know if I would call 9 new spells "a ton". But it's a nice addition.

Yeah I was pretty happy about the unenchanted hooded black robes too. I hope the next DLC has more unenchanted robes.

i think its geared toward spellswords and nightblades. The vamp armor had regin like mage robes, plus the vampire lord is basically uber mage mode. The actual dawngaurd get "holy " spells with sun damage.

It added some spells for necromancers and "holy" spells. There's also the Vampire lord form but not everyone is interested in being a VL so yeah. I guess you could say there could've been more. Maybe beth is saving some for the next DLC.

Vampire Lord is not more powerful then a fully tricked mage. Not even close. The magic system isn't the problem is works pretty well. There are other issues though.

I wish they added good non vampire spells. I shouldn't have to become a vamp lord to have fun magic. Back to spamming incinerate all day.

the mage spells are pretty bad

Not if you're a Resto-only wielding Paladin-type, some of those spells really kick butt and are SUPER for Paladin/Anit-Undead/Anti-Necro types.

Aren't the new Necromancer spells the ones where you summon stuff like Boneman and other zombies from the Soul Cairn?

There's also sun spells for paladins.

Great! Warriors got an entire new weapon set, new armor, and they got the new special weapons from DG. Mages got some new summons, and some preeeeeeeeetttty weak restoration spells.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? The magic system in skyrim is god awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwful compared to oblivion, hello, no spell making, no open lock spells, no fortify so and so skill or attribute or magicka or health spell, the magic system in skyrim has been gutted, burnt, incinerated and shot into the center of the sun!

While Skyrim has done many wrongs in regards to magic, you are simply making it seem much worse than it actually is.
I will agree that spell making should have been added either as a feature or as a skill in Skyrim but I will also state that the spell-making system was not well-thought and was quite broken in Oblivion. I will also add that the -% magicka system is stupid and that spells should have been a bit cheaper and weaker by default. The spells should have also gotten damage boosts with enchanting and destruction leveling instead of the -% magicka.

As for open lock spells, they make the already useless lockpicking perks even more useless and fortify skill spells are not needed in a properly balanced game.
I would also like to add that the way that spells are cast has been considerably improved in Skyrim and that is something that they should keep and expand upon.

When Skyrim came out and they got rid of the magic making system I initially thought "man, this stinks..", but I've never really had a problem with the current format. Folks have stated the magic system is weakened but I have tried all the typical "stereotypes" for characters. They each have their strong and weak points, but playing a pure mage is the most fun to me. I certainly appreciate a good stealther but nothing like being able to toy with opponents like mixing it up with the various schools of magic.

As for mages getting the oust in general with DG? I suppose I'll find out when it hits PS3. My mage is poised and ready for action when it finally hits
