Started a pure Mage and now at level 19...I can say its a blast (no pun intended) and opens up a whole new way to enjoy the game. Destruction doesn't do it alone, but I've found it's great support for my follower and a conjured troll, etc... It requires more strategy, using calm or fear, courage or a rune, whatever will get the job done.

Anyway, just my two cents worth.

I have played a pure destruction mage...and it does do it just fine.
