Mage- Vampire or Dawnguard?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:59 pm

Hello everyone, it's going to be my first play through of dawnguard, and I'm not sure which side to choose. I am a mage, and I know Vampire would suit my character more. But I have my thoughts on the negative effects (the people of skyrim attacking you, sunlight damage.) I really wouldn't want these things. What should I do? I am on PC and if im going to be a vampire, I would install the mod : Better vampires by Brehanin. Can this mod also disable these negative effects? I would like to know what you guys thoughts are :)

I don't know if I'm allowed to bump, so tell me if this wasn't correct!

Vampires actually have it easier in Dawnguard than in the vanilla game. iirc people no longer attack you if you're in normal form, and you don't take damage from sunlight - you just have some reduced stats and no regeneration. Ironically, vampire mods will probably do exactly what you don't want to happen - they are usually centered around making the experience more challenging rather than easier.

I have a 'good' Altmer mage and an 'evil' Breton mage. Choosing a side based on your character's personality is more important than which is the easiest.

I don't want to make it easy, but these things would make the game a bit stupid (my thoughts without playing).

You don't lose health in sunlight, you just don't replenish it. Losing health was in Oblivion.

But I have a PS3, so how should I know.

Better Vampire Mod, if it's the one I use, gives you the option to be attacked on certain stages or not to be attacked, and the ability to switch around how feeding works (more feedings = more power)

You can adjust how devastating certain effects are such as sunlight, make it more difficult or even slightly easier.

Example, you can make it so you recover some while in shadows.

No damage from sunlight without the mod, with the mod you can turn it on but you can keep it off.
No attacks unless in full vampire lord form unless you alter it through the mod.

Better Vampires, if it's the one I'm using, also allows you to make almost any non follower NPC into a follower by actually turning them into a vampire. They will fight with vampire abilities even. You can make it so they take the appearance of the vampires in dawnguard, or keep them human looking. Although they're ugly as vampires usually, they are more interesting as their vampire appearance and make you think they really are vamps.

As for not regenerating in sunlight, you can get objects that boost your regeneration speed. That makes it so you can still regenerate slowly in sunlight.

What Xharon said vampires get quite a few things that helps mages and the better vampires mod adds a lot of options to customize how vampirism works for you in the game.

THE BEST ADVICE is that while Dawnguard has it's benefits all you get is just armor and NEW weapons nothing more while vampire you actually can use your talents to the fullest and since your build is that of a mage than Vampire is where you should go no matter WHAT anyone says on this thread.

here are the Pros of Vampires and Dawnguard
Pros:
Vampire: Magic, Melee, Combat
Dawnguard: Melee, Combat

Cons
Vampire: Sunlight plan your missions accordingly or get certain potions to help you, Serana the ONLY invincible DLC follower that reduces your VL's abilities and the fact that you won't receive too much in the end of the Vampire Quest line(Same goes for the Dawnguard)
Dawnguard: Holy Weapons......which can be seen ALL OVER SKYRIM if you look hard enough, and Magic weakness only the leaders have magical defenses and not the NPC Dawnguard Enemies just the same weapons and random of the same armor over and over again
