Mages and upcoming patch

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 6:22 pm

Will the upcoming patch make wearing cloth (not light or heavy armor) viable for mages? At this point, there is NO reason to wear cloth with enchanting around.

Will the patch fix destruction damage scaling problem?

Do you think there will be any major changes to balance?

if it releases with the Contruction Kit? I expect all those and much much more to magic! :celebration: Modders usually make far better magic changes than BGS ever does.

One can hope it changes the overall feel of the sub par system we have now.

One can hope that modders implement a spell creation altar with all of the missing spell effects too. You know it's going to happen. Eventually.

I really hope Bethesda will take feedback to heart once and not leave us with only the modding community to remedy our problem.

I never liked having to download mods to alter the game systems themselves because then I feel like I'm just no longer playing the same game as everyone else.

Mods should be there to expand the games content, not to fix game systems.

I just said something in the other thread about the very issue of missing effects. Somebody seems to get it! Thank you!

Mages will remain gimped until TES 6 at which point they have to reinclude spellmaking due to popular demand

And hopefully realisation of the difference between TES and halo.

Bah: you edited your post.

Anyway, Mages are not broken. They're just not insanely overpowered like they have been for several TES games now.

clothes are fine if you don't want to deal with enchanting because you can get enchanted clothes (magic relate effects too) early in the game. That's about it I think. Does cloth ofter better sneak than light armor for someone with no light armor perks? I am not sure.

Hopefully lower casting time of master tier spells to 1 second and allow you to run while casting, and double the damage of master tier destruction spells.

Their effects are awesome but these 2 aspects make them very situational. Basically have to use them from stealth and after that put them away.

Master illusion spells I've shelved because expert versions are better. Dual-casted they can snipe range, are aoe, and can be spammed quickly on the run, and last just as long as master tier. This is the case for all master tier illusion spells. Basically expert versions are better than master in every way except in very specific situations.

I think a large oversite in general with the creation of the master spells is that because their dual-cast only they don't get the dual-cast benefits. For example lightning storm's damage might make sense if it got the dual-cast bonus but it doesn't and thus its actually significantly less powerful than thunderbolt and even chain lightning.

Blizzard I find useful for its slowing effect but an unnecessary toy really. I honestly prefer ice storm to blizzard. The fact that it doesn't get dual-cast bonus damage makes it quite a low damage spell.

I actually like firestorm concept and I wouldn't change it except for its damage being quite low for its cast time. If it were only a 1 second cast time like every other fire spell and you could cast it while moving, it would be amazing.

Mass paralysis is as overpowered as it sounds.

Dragonskin is awesome but its cast time is just ridiculous. Cant afford to cast it when you need it the most.

I don't have the restoration master spells yet but I imagine they take 5 seconds to cast and will get you killed rather than save your life.

all i care about is them fixing the damn "bloated save file" problem on the ps3... its rendered my file useless, cause it freezes so often.

i barely did anything in the game and the file is already over 8mb and i cant do much without it freezing... before it reached 8mb, the game played perfectly.

screw balancing issues for now, work on the stability!

Master spells can be pretty epic if used in conjunction. Master Restoration Circle+Master Fire Spell can mean a lot of dead enemies, very quickly. Only at low-medium levels, of course, but its still just awesome to blow away an entire room with 1-2 well-placed spells!
