Magic Combination Ideas?

Post » Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:23 pm

Apologies if the thread's already been done, I might have missed it when I looked.
I'm enthusiastic about the game and I'm hooked on the idea of being able to complete a mission using loads of different methods and routes, so I'm wondering what you guys are thinking about using the magic abilities for? Are you going to bend time and take everyone out there and then, or blink past your enemies? What I'm really interested in is the combination of spells that we see in the Creative Kills video and there must be more combos than they show in the video. I know this might not be a game mechanic or anything, you might not get a health boost or an improved mission report for utilising multiple abilities in a single kill but it adds to the idea of creative gameplay to enjoy the game even more, and playing it to your own style.
That said, share your ideas on stealth and assassinating. For me, I'm feeling quite warm about bending time, blinking to behind the guards and leaving a few mid-air bolts behind their backs.

Thanks!

I think the one I will use the most is a combination of Bend Time and Shadow Kill. Stop time, slice some guards throats, no bodies, they just "disappeared". I want to try to play mostly non-lethally, like I'm doing in Deus Ex, but it just doesn't sound as fun in Dishonored. However, I will try to knock out guards instead of killing them whenever possible, and I will definitely play stealthily. Stealth is so much fun! I enjoy hiding bodies, but Shadow Kill makes it much easier. Shadow Kill, Bend Time, and Blink will be my main powers, as well as possibly Dark Vision.

Yeah, I played Human Revolution and was mainly stealthy there too, which I enjoyed. I like the idea of disappearing bodies, with enough patience you could de-guard the whole map XD Have you listened to the podcast that was just posted on this thread? It says it's possible to not kill anyone in the game, even major targets can be neutralised without being murdered. Relating to this thread, it also mentions the combo of blinking and bending time to throw a whale-oil barrel across a wide area to kill someone, which I think is genius.

Not to sound rude, but that has been known since the game was announced.

Sorry, I knew the guards could be avoided and some targets like the Pendletons could be incapacitated but still living, but I didn't know all of the marks could be left alive. I just thought that was interesting, I only just heard it on the podcast.

No worries, just pointing it out.

That's not really true. When the game was announced we didn't know anything about the targets and how assassinations would be carried out. We first learned about the non-lethal option in a PC Gamer article with the phrase "you are an assassin that doesn't need to kill his targets", which caught me off guard at the time. We officially learned that every target can be taken out that way soon after they announced it, and it was here on the forums. It was mentioned to a wider audience in a video after E3 and not a lot of people got to see it. So it really isn't surprising that somebody wouldn't know all the details as most of us do.

Yes, all the targets have that option and sometimes you might actually want to question it.

In the case of Lady Boyle I will definitely reconsider. She finances Lord Regent's current operations, not the ones that helped take down the Empress. Arguably that's not a whole lot better, but she doesn't play that big of a part on my revenge list to grant her a fate worse than death. So that one will be laid to rest I am afraid, with my cold steel through her naked throat. (the sixual tension!)

Anyone, on topic, I will try to stay away from magic at first. Just an upgraded Blink and maybe Dark Vision at best. Everything else will be a combination of gadgets for me (at least the first time). I don't like magic, too simple, too quick and it seems like a Deus Ex Machina in most cases (look it up).

From the GameInformer Dishonored cover reveal (which was the announcement of Dishonored), found http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/07/07/august-cover-revealed-dishonored.aspx:
It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone.

So far I've decided that the two non-lethal options that we know of are both much worse than killing them. For at least those two I am not choosing the non-lethal option.
