Magicka Regen Rates Drop During Battles

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 1:08 am

Hello Bethesda,

It seems magicka regen rates full dramatically when you are "seen" or engaged in battles. I am wearing a total of over 300% magicka regen gear, which recharges the full MP of 450 in about 8 seconds, starting from zero. When engaged in battles it takes over 3 times as long to cover the same amount, according to my stopwatch app on my Droid. I'm not sure if there is a similar post on this but I thought I should make people aware.

It isn't a bug, it's an intended mechanic that is supposed to increase the difficulty of battles.

Wow that was fast, do you have any idea what the reduced calculation is for in battles? I feel that it is more than if you didn't have any gear on at all, but there must be a multiplier.

That's pretty ridiculous. When else would you need magic regeneration the most aside from when not battleing?

I guess massive framerate dropping is intentional as well in large battles giving you more time to think in the heat of the moment and more calculated precise blows.

actually the magicka regen rate is suppose to drop during combat, alot of games use this mechanic, the most explanable reason is, "when your at rest, you can more easily regenerate the energies since your relaxed and they can flow in more easily, and you can focus"

in battle, your less focused on replenishing energy and more on dodging attacks, and the pain inflicted when you are struck. now a comabt magic perk woudl be awsome that allows magicka regen NOT to drop during battle, but they obviously overlooked this. ( although the regen perk in regeneration is a decent substitute)

also, this is why magicka regen equipment comes in VERY handy.

Yeah, its a really dumb gameplay mechanic. No point in having Regen gear when it doesn't help in battle at all...

Ugh, clearly you lack some basic knowledge. During combat, both Health, Magic, and Stamina regeneration slow down by something like 33%. Regen bonuses still work in combat, but the percentage enchantment will be applied to the 33% combat rate, and not the 100% passive regeneration rate.

Not sure where you get your numbers from, but as far as I see wearing gear with 150% increased regen doesn't make a hill of beans different in combat while I play.

Get into combat with a weak enemy like a wolf, use up all your magicka, and test it both with and without your regen gear. The regen bonuses do work in combat, it's been tested.

Since you clearly aren't going to make any sort of counter argument, I'm just going to dismiss your responses. It's a game mechanic. If you honestly think this is a bug, then I'm afraid you're beyond help.

Its not that it doesn't do anything, it just does make enough of a difference to justify the use. You're better of getting gear that reduce the cost of spells vs magic regen.

I noticed it to and thought it was a bug, but realized it was intended. I was the same, armed to the hilt with 250+ magika regen, and during combat my expert level spells drained the [censored] out of the mana, all whilst the fire mage or whatever seemed to be able to fire non stop!!! I realized the best thing to do is enchant heaps of [censored] with "fortify destruction" and buy the master destruction robe, that way I can blast away for ages and it costs little mana.
