Main Menu has Blocky Fog

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 9:15 pm

Whenever I start up my game my main menu fog / smoke is all blocky and not volumetric. Looks almost like you can see the individual layers of it.
I have screenshots if need be.

Thanks in advance!

Install the AMD 12.1 preview driver, after uninstalling your current driver ofcourse. Known issue with recent drivers.

Actually, I have a GTX 460, so yea AMD doesnt really aid me much...

Current driver right now is 296.10 it was just released. I installed it and chose to do the clean install option, but I;ve had this problem before those drivers as well.

Hmmm.... was just wondering. I fried a GTX 480 last week as the way it was installed caused it to overheat. I read that all the 4xx series get very hot and can be damaged if not well cooled. How is your Skyrim once the game loads? Running any mods that may be using up all your VRAM, like HD texture replacers?

Ahhh since this is nvidia...getting your settings would really help...

Things that make the smoke smoother...

Higher resolution (IE: 1920x1080)
Set Game launcher 2x AA 2X AF

Use Nvidia Inspector to set...
Enhance game settings.
4x AA
16x AF
make sure transparency Multi sample AA is OFF
Transparency Supersampling 2x

There are other tweaks to be had in the Inspector but these should get your smoke , and the game looking a whole lot better...while in the Inspector might also want to limit FPS to something below your monitor refresh...I set mine to 58...some use 59 or 60.

Google search for "Nvidia Inspector". Install then just look for the "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" profile.
