Main Problem With Skyrim Is This

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 7:48 pm

Please, I mean everything in here as constructively as I possibly can! This is NOT a bash Bethesda thread!!! I love you guys at Bethesda and think your all awesome!!! :goodjob:

OK, as I already said I love this game in a very serious way and I'm in constant awe over it but this needs to be said and I hope that Bethesda can fix this issue in the future(doubtful but one can hope).

Here it is plain and simple..........please in the future make and optimize your games for the PC THEN & ONLY THEN port them over to the other platforms. Seriously, you guys have done this backwards!

My best regards to you all @ Bethesda & my highest congratulations on an epic success with Skyrim!

Your opinion is now likely to be heard, threads which point out imperfections are being locked, then again this is a forum owned by besesda so they have the right I guess, but it makes me think that they don't care

Will you please stop derailing every thread with your anti-Bethesda agenda.

Sadly, they haven't been even attempting to do anything on the PC since Oblivion. Oblivion was a console game, this is even more so. No RPG stats, the compass, the linear quests... ugh. And now, bugs, lazy graphics options, features left out..

First, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I understand your frustration, but why is designing it for consoles and porting it to PC backwards when a majority of the players these days are on consoles?

Because PCs are more powerful than consoles, and thus need slightly different features. If those features come in as an afterthought, as with this game, you get a ton of angry customers.

Also, because Bethesda is originally a PC company, and the ES is a PC series. It should run best on PC. At this point, not only is the PC the worst choice, but it lacks some of the basic features of even the most budget PC games.

Havent played it yet but in future games I hope Bethesda either makes their interface massively customizable or has another inferfacef for PC users.

Like I said, the interface should have been outsourced. That's what the devs for Deus Ex:HR did, and it worked beautifully: a UI actually made for PC.

Bethesda probably just thought 'eh...we'll let the community fix it..'

that's why i can't wait until the steam forums come back online... at least over there you don't have hungry mods locking threads for no reason (simply because it's some feedback or opinion about what needs to be fixed or improved)..

EDIT; Look like the steam forums are back online... BYE!

This is the sad truth as to why we won't see console ports ending any time soon. PC is a superior platform—there is no argument there—but consoles are more accessible, and generally more affordable, therefore more people buying consoles, and it is a smart business decision to cater to the larger crowd first.

Exactly. I totally agree that PC is a much more powerful platform and I'd be ignorant to argue otherwise. Bethesda is doing their best to strike a balance and it's impossible for them to please everyone. I certainly don't envy their task.

So this is what happens when PC elitists get butthurt?

*FLAME SHIELD ON!* lol, sorry guys, but yeah what it comes down to is with the massive amount of content in this game and the fact that most of the players now on console they're more likely to make it more player friendly for the broader portion of the market. I don't play on PC so I can't comment but I'm sure the menus aren't horrible to the point that you can't just get used to it....

I'm not sure. I found a few problems but it's a great game just needs improvement.

Well, think about how many console customers there are compared to PC customers? It just makes sense to appeal to the greater majority in order to get money. But I do agree, both should be be done equally. And honestly, I think they are.

Epic success is yet to be ................*NOT RESPONDING*..............seen.

In all honesty, I think it has the makings for game of the year. BUT, it needs to be patched..heavily. Large number of players unable to walk 20 feet in the open world does not scream success to me, along with the poor optimization of players' computer systems.

Yeah, from your point of view its not backwards but from a technical point of view it is.

True, but this raises a question: Is this an excuse to port directly from a console to PC, or should you optimize it a bit first? They are losing (full prize) PC costumers over this. I was so bummed out by oblivion directly after launch that I won't pick up skyrim for atleast 6 months.

Love the games and the universe, but PC is in my opinion too under underappreciated.

Well, check this out. You and most people say they are appealing to the larger amount of customers but think about that for a min. or two. Is that what they are truly doing? I say no and this is why. Developing a game for the console is easier then it is for the PC, yes/no?(seems to me yes but i could be wrong I'm no expert in game dev.) Their not appealing to any one platform but rather to whats easier and yet still makes money. So, in a way they can be lazy and get away with it. I could be wrong about this but it just looks like that to me.

This is a valid point for a game such as Call of Duty, but since this is TES I'm not so sure.

I would really like to see the statistics of their sales for PS3 vs XBOX vs PC. I saw a chart a while back for preorders, but it was said that it didn't include Steam preorders (which obviously quite a few people used, including myself).
