Main Quest Broken- Please Help

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 1:51 am

I hope someone can help me with this, but I have over 121 hours in Skyrim right now and I have hit a glitch that has completely stopped my game. On the main quest "Transcribe the Lexicon", every time I try to enter Blackreach and as I'm walking up to the Tower of Mzark where the quest marker is, the entire building disappears along with half of the sky and everything around it. Once it let me walk up to the now invisible stairs to reach the marker but it would not do anything when I tried to activate it. I have tried clearing the cache and reinstalling the patches with no results. I thought it might actually be the patch that ruined it because I have been to Blackreach before and this didn't happen. It only started happening after the first patch so I had an idea of how to circumvent that. I cleared the Xbox cache and chose not to sign on to xbox live so that the patch could not be installed. My goal was to load the game and pass that part before reinstalling the patch. However, when I tried to load any of the saved games, it said that I needed to install the patch first. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Is there another way into the tower of Mzark, maybe from the surface? It looks like a lift that goes all the way up. I don't know what else to do and starting over is not an option. I'm not about to invest another 120+ hours just to have it happen again. Thanks in advance for any help.

There are other locations that allow access to Blackreach, such as Alftand which is just west of Saarthall or west southwest of Winterhold. This is a longer route but if it works for you im sure it would be worth it.

I really appreciate the advise. The problem is that I can access blackreach with no problem, but it's once I'm there that the glitch occurs. The stupid building disappears when I get about 50 yards from it. At that point I just run into invisible walls and fall into invisible water. It's so frustrating because I have tried every previous save I have and it is still an issue. I wish it was a side quest so I could simply skip it. There is no way that I'm starting over because I would rather use the disk as a coaster than put in another 120+ hours. Thanks again.

I have patch 1.4, and I'm experiencing this as well. I want my money back. This is the worst game ever... not game of the year material in the lest.

I've looked about for any workarounds or even mentions of this glitch and I've found nothing, sadly. If you're not picky, you can have someone with Skyrim on PC just advance you through the quest and conjure you up an Elder Scroll. I'd be super totes happy to do that for you, so that this way you don't have to mourn 120+ hours of wasted time and a LOT of sacrificed goats to destroy Bethesda.

Oh, but to do that with the PC and the console and all, you'd have to find someone with a Skyrim on PC that only has up to the same patch as you do, or you'd have to go and re-install 1.4 since most people are using that I imagine.

Sorry, I'm new here. I started a new character yesterday because of a main-quest-breaking glitch (Elder Knowledge) with 200+ hrs.
I love this game too much to just stop playing it tho so I just make sure to keep my old character save and hope the problem eventually gets fixed.
Also, now I scour the forums a couple times a day for new bugs and glitches so maybe I can avoid that kind of heartache again. And.. save! save! save!
