Major LagStutter at the start of New Areas - any fixes?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:25 am

After the game loads, I have to do the old 360 degree spin before the game smooths out.

Before I do that, it is very stuttery. I also see a big stutter when you swing between menu screens for the first time when you start up the game.

This is VERY annoying.

Any way to fix this? Why can't all the textures and stuff pre-load during the loading screen so I don't get these hitches?

I am NOT running crossfire setup:

I have an AMD HD 6850
Phenom II X4 3.6GHZ
4GB Ram

This hasn't happened to me. What kind of RAM are you using, DDRwhat? It's possible things just aren't loading to it fast enough.

It happens to me too, my system is a little below minimum spec but it still runs at 60 FPS with lowered settings, except in new areas. And again, spinning the camera around fixes it.

I don't think this is a ram issue. The only thing our systems have in common is AMD graphics cards, and I've seen reports of this issue elsewhere, all from AMD users. I think we'll have to wait for a driver update from AMD or Catalyst Application Profile.

This is why I've abandoned AMD. With almost every new game there's some problem. It's ridiculous.

I only get this problem when tabbing back into the game. Which is normal.

But it sounds like your card isn't even preloading the maps at all.

I only have problems with this game, the other new games run just fine.

I get this too, but it doesn't bother me. I just do a laggy 360 spin and then the game runs smooth as butter.

I'm getting this too. The transition to the menu screen is extremely laggy (wasn't a great first impression), and I get it when loading a save. These two I can put up with, it's not so bad.

But when for example, I'm in the middle of playing and dropping down from a third storey to backstab someone and it lags like this because of all the new scenery loaded it can be extremely annoying.

Would love a fix.

This seems to be a common issue with AMD cards. Arkane should take a look at this.

Yeah Arkane or AMD must take care of this, my father has almost the same specs as me but he′s using a GTX 670 and have no problems at all.

yeah same here. i have a freaking 17 2600k, a sapphire 7870 and 4GB ram, yet my GPU barely goes over 50% usage, and it seems to drop to 1-3% usage whenever i entre a level (probarbly causeing the framerate drops. this game is seiously under using AMD rigs. this needs to be sorted. we can all easily play the game, but it isnt supported (strange that you should have a 7850, which is pretty much the same as my 7870)

edit: seems the 360 spin at the start of each level really helps. just in "cut scenese" its not very useful, so was convincing me of lag

Hey Harlie, i have almost the same Pc as you, i have + 4Gb.

I dont want to be off but this problem is present in Spec ops the line too.. Its a typical unreal engine problem...

+1 for stutter at initial load screen and with each reload. 360 degree spin ensures the rest of the level is smooth. I'm running an XFX 7970 with dual quad Xeons, 16GB RAM and a raid 0 HD setup, so I would hope that it's a driver issue. Fix this please Bethesda/Arkane/AMD!

Well, I've just reported it to AMD using this http://www.amd.com/report and included a link to this thread. Hopefully someone is listening.
