G.E.C.K. to make locations

Hey, I'm new to the GECK world, I just downloaded it today. Well here's my story, I've been all over New Vegas Nexus and Planet Fallout for the past 2 days in search of a mod to give me a decent player home. I've seen amazing mods, but none of them seem of interest to me. Just the casual old bunker, or shack, or armory, or personal vault, nothing special, nothing spectacular. Now, my terms of spectacular would be the "My Mansion" mod from Fallout 3. The landscape was amazing, the building was fantastic, and it was huge inside. It was definitely something I'd like to use. But I have no Fallout 3 for PC, so I make do with New Vegas.

Now here's the thing. Since I haven't found anything as fantastic as the "My Mansion" mod, I've decided to try and make my own location, and player home, as others did. I at first thought it'd be quite easy, but before I did anything I searched for videos on how to mod. It seemed pretty easy, considering that most of the videos featured modding 'special weapons' and things. But nothing of modding whole new locations.

So, I have to ask, how in the world do you mod a location? I at first thought 'well if the GECK is as easily navigable as the game it should be no problem. Just click on the ground and get to work.' But it wasn't that simple. I could move shrubs and overpasses, heck I even cleared a spot for the building. It was bare ground and I clicked, I left clicked, I looked through the options, and nothing. I would open the 'World' option and get things like ImageSpace and WorldSpace. I tried those, it looked overly complicated, and not to risk damage to the games files I gave up. I won't be trying again until I get information, and if not then I guess I'm not cut out for modding.

Any thoughts? Help would be appreciated.
