Making a class not typical of your race.

Post » Sun Aug 05, 2012 7:39 pm

I have just started playing a Nord mage originally was going to pick a Dunmer and was trying to think of a back story but could think of any thing.
Then an Idea came about a Nord who was interested in magic from a young age but was shunned by his peers and family because of it, and conflict with his "true nord" blacksmith farther when he found a spell tomb under his bed and kicked him out of home at 15.
Makes it alot more interesting for me and for RP than if I just went with a generic Breton or Altmer mage.
Any one else like to make an a typical class for your race like a Orc assassin more a Breton warrior for example?

I normally prefer to make a class that isn't typical of Khajiit. Khajiit hunters and Khajiit rangers are a blast to play as. I also like to play my Argonians as ones who prefer to use spells. They always seemed like the kind of guys who could be good magic users.

I'm never attracted to use a certain race because it supports the class I want to be, or vice versa. I just choose the Race I want, and the Class I want, the race's starting Skills, Racial Abilities, or stereotype they are based on Lore doesn't affect my choice.

My main character is a Khajiit that specializes in Two-Handed Swords and Frost Destruction (I refuse to read Destruction Spell Tome's that aren't Frost or Ice)

I have an Altmer Pilgrim-ish combat oriented character and she's super fun to play.
The racial "attributes" and stereotypes don't really matter. Not to mention the forgettable skill boosts.

I'm playing an Altmer warrior right now. My other character is an Altmer assassin and my third character is a nord ranger/hunter. The names in order left to right legolas(for lotr fans) haldir(for lotr nerds(like me) Aragorn.

Argonians have always been made out to be jacks of all trades, with mages being one of the things they are particularly skilled as due to their keen intelligence. I guess it's how they make up for being so ugly. Though pre-morrowind they were like... sixy lizard people. It was kinda weird, but also made them one of the coolest races imo.

I made an orc wizard in Oblivion, found it very rewarding with their magical resistance and high willpower. It's like people thought of them just as warriors, but they made great mages and especially sorcerers for the same reasons they were good warriors. Dark Elf Paladin might be neat.

Whenever I end up getting Dawnguard, I had planned a character somewhat similar to this.

A snow-white khajiit that specialized in unarmed combat (using mods), stealth (especially in the snowy areas) and illusion magic, and cold/ice destruction magic. I never went through any details or even thought of a name.

I make my Dunmer an Archer Assassin, but sense they were originally well balanced in Destruction Magic, Bow, and Blade I haven't really made a class that doesn't suit the race. Unless you just count Skyrim where Dunmer are pretty much Altmer :(.

My female Nord is light armored and a sneaky archer who duel wields at close combat. Sneak is high but she's not a thief or in the DB. She uses very basic magic to suit her needs.

I make characters that have a playstyle I want to play and not what the race is suited for. I have made a few characters outside the "regular", though at the moment I play an Imperial Crusader which fits the race perfectly(only change one-handed to two-handed, I love warhammers).

My Imperial uses Heavy Armour, Two Handed and Restoration, with Smithing/Enchanting for crafting.

I have no idea whether that is typical of an Imperial or not since they seem quite well rounded.

My favorite class/race combo in all the games is a Breton Warrior.

It is. It is the same as I use and it plays very well to the races initial skill bonus. The Crusader is a fun build :)

For a name, you could always go with a cool name you like and turn it Khajiiti-ish
for one of my Characters I turned Ordun into D'rodun
My other Khajiit names I got:
K'helt (My main character)
M'areq
S'drells
Ellyn
and Inerri

for Details, you could RP him being skilled in Whispering fang, or the other two Khajiit Martial arts since he uses Unarmed.

With me, I have to think about a logical class that best fits my play style. It's difficult for me to see a heavily armored two-handed Khajiit, much less playing one. Same goes for a master orc mage. (Although the librarian is pretty kick-ass.)

Nords/Orcs/Imperials to me are warriors.

Khajiits to me are thieves or assassins.

Dark Elves/Bretons to me are spellswords.

High Elves to me are mages.

Argonians due to their racial abilities can be just about anything they want. Yet, I've never played one. Ever.

I know a lot of people disagree with my schema, but that's just how I see things. I have always grown up to do what you're best at.
