I am making a nice female barbarian. Ideas?

Post » Thu Nov 08, 2012 9:10 am

Hi if you remember me. I had a break from Skyrim for quite some time because I was dissapointed about Skyrim on the ps3. (Not the bugs that really bothered me, more of the fact that there still are not any DLC's for the ps3. I would have stayed optimistic if I atleast heard more news about it.)

But I then remembered how much fun I had with the game so I decided to give it a try again.

Name: Magnhildr
Gender: Female (I like characters that tend to make a better rp experience. I found a female barbarian something that would make a good story.)
Race: Nord
Stone: Warrior most likely.
Factions: Companions, Stormcloaks
Dragonborn: Yes

Skills:
Two-handed
Light Armour
Blocking
Smithing

Any other ideas? I will come up with a story later.

If you are going a pure warrior build, I'd say take alchemy for healing and stamina potions. If you are willing to work in some magic, I'd pick up restoration.

I thought so aswell. But I really like to stick with my story. And I don't see somebody with alchemy knowledge in a Barbarian.

You could add a little alchemy as some "shaman knowledge" or something. :) Not on par with mages.

Always have a bow handy, for those hard to get to people.

Would be more for orcish barbarians, in my opinion.
I am also now doubting if my barbarian will be female. haha.
I came up with a great story in my mind but it is better fitting for a male. I'll just try both genders.
And should I join the companions? I don't know if I want to be a werewolf. I can cure it but then I will still have those annoying quotes about the fur in my ears.

That should do. It would have been more cooler if the game had throwing axes. But bows will do fine. Perhaps she (or he, I haven't really decided yet) likes to hunt.

I agree, I'd suggest perhaps a little smithing, repairing or improving fur armor, etc., might fit with your character concept.

Try using melee weapons exclusively, no ranged weapons, no spells, no sneaking around and just run headfirst into battle. Recently played a 2-handed barbarian type character who considered those to be cowardly activities. It was refreshing change after having played stealth and mage characters previously. For this character, I put all my perk points into two-handed weapons and stamina, no health or any other skills.

One warning, though - I've played a few different characters with different playing styles and Bleak Falls Barrow was insanely challenging for this two-handed melee character at level 1 on Master difficulty with no mods. I died dozens and dozens of times in the room with two restless draugr. I couldn't stagger them to interrupt their spells because they were ganging up on me, and I didn't have any ranged attack at all and very little stamina. From that point forward the game became easier, and the Bleak Falls boss was not too hard compared to these guys.

You know, I can just make two barbarian types.
One male, one female.
The male one I will make now, the typical buff guy with long hair and a greatsword.
And a dual axe wielder, who will be a female.

Shouldn't I worry about my low health if I put all my perks into stamina?

I recommend using smithing to help keep your fur/leather armor competitive at later levels, and to build up your weapon. Barbarians are big on crafting/fixing their own armor and forging their own steel.

I've played several characters on Master setting and never invested anything in health or armor skills. However, the result is that I die and reload a lot, and my character has a pool of around 400 stamina or magicka for power attacks or spells. Also increases carry weight a lot.

If you prefer not to die so much, you may prefer to use a lower difficulty setting or invest more into health or armor.

I put maybe 60-70% of my barbarian character's points into health, and the rest into stamina with no problems. You just need food or stamina potions for longer fights.

My usual setting is Adept. Should be the right difficulty.

What about the name? I changed my mind for the barbarian I am making right now.
He will be male, I thought Anvindr (Means: ''triumph of the ancestors'') would fit well for a Nord barbarian.

Sounds like a solid name, maybe add a funny or interesting title, like Anvindr the Unwashed, or Anvindr Troll-Beater, etc.

I am not good with titles.
Anvindr the Unleashed? haha

I will probably stick with just the name.

Considering getting money on Skyrim is not the most difficult thing in the game. I do not really worry too much about that. :P

My orc barbarian build I mentioned earlier uses forsworn armor and so far has never used a healing potion(but has used some food), playing on adept. If you want a badass two-handed barbarian being able to take hits is more important than a few extra power attacks. And you can just get an absorb fatigue weapon if it bothers you to not be able to spam power attacks all day.

Barbarians live off the land. They would know a fair amount of herbalism (alchemy) in that regard.
