Making an Orc

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:51 pm

So, I am making my second orc character in the game(though you could easily call it the first since the other one I made I played for only a couple of hours before I deleted it) and I am looking for some input. Not as in "I need help", I know the game and the mechanics well, but I am more interested in the different opinions the community can some up with.

This is what I have so far

Playstyle: Warrior will be the general playstyle, being a melee fighter. The question here is should I go for heavy or light armor and what weapons should I use? Should I go for two-handed, dual wielding or weapon and shield?

Crafting: Alchemy and smithing seems to be the most common crafting performed by orcs and they have a bonus to enchanting. I normally limit myself to one crafting type so which one would you go for?

Civil War: Explains itself. Note: We already have a thread on the Civil War so please keep it to the side you think is most fitting and a short summarization without starting to debate it in this thread. Thank you.

View on the Gods: I am an RPer, though not as seriosu as some. I know Malacath is the patron of the orcs, but I am interested in what people have the impression the orcs think about the other gods and daedric princes.

Equipment of choice: This partially falls together with an earlier point, but what weapons, armor and clothes(for visiting cities and the like) do you think my orc should use?

Where to buy a home.

Where to become Thane: So I usually do not become Thane in more than two or three cities, so where should I be a Thane?

Artifacts: Are there any artifacts you think I should seek out(in addition to Volendrung :P )?

Should my Orc marry someone, and in the case of yes: Who would be a fitting spouse?

And lastly: I need a name. Gender: Male

As an Orsimer fanatic you can imagine my pleasure at answering these :P

1. With heavy armor you can wear the Orc armor, but it's really whichever you prefer. I go heavy armor, but that's just me.

2. Smithing, Alchemy would be handled by the wise woman of the tribe, unless you're a City Orc.

3. Empire.

4. I have nothing against the Divines, I actually like Mara. However, Malacath, unless you're a City Orc, is the end all. Unless you are a heretic and claim Trinimac still exists. :P

5. Since my character is a partial smith, he generally wears black boots and the blacksmith clothes in cities. I always carry a few potions, only purchased from wise women.

6 and 7. I'm not a thane anywhere, and I never felt a home was fitting. That's just me, however.

8. That's up to you, I don't use Volendrung. My character doesn't feel worthy.

9. Again, all depends if you are a stronghold or city Orc. If Stronghold, none. If city, there are two Orc female npc you can choose from.

10. http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/index.php?p=modding_data%2Fngen&race=D_ELF&gender=male&count=1

Just put gro before your last name like this, Gortwog gro-Nagorm.

Hope I was able to help, and I'd be happy to answer anymore questions in greater detail if you'd like :P

Playstyle: Well, anything would do, but for Orc it seems two handed is your best bet with Malacath's Volendrung. While for armour, in my opinion, heavy because of Orcish armour.

Crafting: No idea why Orcs have a bonus in Enchanting, but they are known to be some of the best smiths throughout Tamriel.

Civil War: I believe an Orc would remain somewhat neutral in the war, but a little bit towards Empire, because many served in the Legion, but don't think they would get deeply involved.

Gods: Malacath for one! Any others all depends on your character's beliefs.

Equipment: Orcish armour, weapons and Volendrung once you get your hands on it.

Home: Can't really answer this one, but Anise's Cabin is a nice place for storage, just DO NOT use the barrel in the doorway.

Thane: Play, and say what cities are suited for your Orc.

Artifacts: Volendrung and possibly Mace of Molag Bal.

Marriage: Borgakh the Steel Heart, Orc marriage canditate, follower too.

Name: Take inspiration from some other Orcs llike Borgakh the Steel Heart and Ghorbash the Iron Hand (Followers and marriage canditates)

I like orcs. They are generally one of the better one of the better (in my opinion) races to pick for a pure figther. Their talent (beserker rage) simply plays into the whole concept. My most recent orc (Ug'lug) was two handed, wielding battle axe. Why? I think axes are the coolest of the weapons, they do a decent amount of damage but this can be tailored by your own vision of what would scare your enemies the worst. If you're going front line fighting with little magicky type backup, then heavy. If you're not. Heavy.

Crafting: Alchemy and smithing seems to be the most common crafting performed by orcs and they have a bonus to enchanting. I normally limit myself to one crafting type so which one would you go for?

Smithing.. all the way. Take it to 90, make some daedric or ebony plate and laugh as your enemies hit you with their puny weapons.

Civil War: Explains itself. Note: We already have a thread on the Civil War so please keep it to the side you think is most fitting and a short summarization without starting to debate it in this thread. Thank you.

I had as an ex Empire legionaire. There was a problem with supply lines being cut, pay being lost, and simply put, the orc got shafted. Which made him switch sides. (Honestly, whichever works for you) HIstorically orcs will fight for the Empire, but I'd already done a play through Empire so I wanted to be Stormcloak on this one.

View on the Gods: I am an RPer, though not as seriosu as some. I know Malacath is the patron of the orcs, but I am interested in what people have the impression the orcs think about the other gods and daedric princes.

Malacath makes the most sense. Orcs rule by strength. When one is not strong enough, he is challenged and replaced. Hence the problem with the Cursed Tribe. Weak, snivelling, paying others to do his bidding... that and the hammer you get is awesome

Equipment of choice: This partially falls together with an earlier point, but what weapons, armor and clothes(for visiting cities and the like) do you think my orc should use?

The only time I remove my orcs armor is when he is actually IN his house. Otherwise, he's more known for the intimidating daedric demonic going to cut you in half war hero look.

Where to buy a home.

Depends on what you want to show off the most. Each home has it's advantages and disadvantages. I stationed mine in Windhelm at Hjeirm.

Where to become Thane: So I usually do not become Thane in more than two or three cities, so where should I be a Thane?

Solitude, Windhelm, Riften - Cut the map in half

Artifacts: Are there any artifacts you think I should seek out(in addition to Volendrung  )?

Ebony mail

Should my Orc marry someone, and in the case of yes: Who would be a fitting spouse?

Gods no! Ug'lug made that mistake! Here Love... as you wish love... good bye love... hello love... eat my food love.. get out of the way love... Ugh.. made him sick.

And lastly: I need a name. Gender: Male

Thats a lot of questions so I will just tell what my Orc is like.
He is a heavy armor wearing, warhammer wielding ass kicker.
Smithing is his only crafting skill,he does block occasionally but mostly he power attacks with devistating damage.
He has the hots for that Orc smithing chick in Markarth and will most likely pursue that intrest before long.
He worships Malacath but is also a loyal follower of Hircine.
He loves to wolf out and go giant hunting.
He dispises the thalmor and makes it a mission to kill as many as he can.

My orc uses heavy armor with a 2-Handed sword (I prefer swords over anything else). Smithing would be your best crafting choice, better armor rating and damage output. Orcs seem to favor the Empire in general, I guess because they get treated fairly nicely, due to being very good (lore-wise) armorsmiths. I typically use the best possible armor and weapons, upgraded to the highest he can, regardless of armor cap. I don't feel like changing clothes just because Im in a city. I know of a full suit of Orcish armor that is lying the stronghold that you get the 'Cursed Tribe' quest, but it is owned by the orcs.

I suppose he will count as a city orc, he is not from any of the strongholds. Grew up with mercenaries.

I enjoyed my orc playthrough. She was a heavy armor, sword and shield warrior. Since she was female I thought it was appropriate for her to have both some smithing and alchemy skill. Shield bashing was a lot of fun and using Spelldrinker gives an enormous advantage in the game, to the point that I was putting the difficulty up because she wasn't even breaking a sweat.

Personally I love the orc armor. Looks quite badass. A lot of the orc bandits wear light armor, and I think the dual-axe wielding guy in the loading screen is light armor. It's really personal preference IMO.

My orc was a legion veteran and sided with the legion, though the fact that they were going to cut her head off really steamed her clams. But the legion has given orcs a lot of opportunity and the stronghold orcs still look to the legion as a career path, so I think it makes more sense to go with them.

Malacath all the way. He actually seems to care about his followers.

Then that opens up you options quite a bit more.

You could pursue Alchemy, not follow any Daedra (Including Malacath), and do anything really.
You'd be a lot like an average citizen, but you could still carry the beliefs of the Strongholds, that's what I do, and I spend every moment possible in one. xD
I also don't deal with Bretons, Belethor has yet to recieve any of my business as soon as I found out he was a Breton. :P

Dual wielding maces, scaled armor, orcish boots and gloves. Raise smithing equal to one-handed as not to go crazy with it. I also only use orcish weapons once I get them.

Malacath all the way. He actually seems to care about his followers.

He does, though sometimes it becomes a tough love type of deal, like in Skyrim.

While in Oblivion he even showed care for some Ogres, and expressed glee that I was an orc.

For equipment, pick Volendrung, however you spell it. It's the perfect hammer for orc rp'rs and fans of 2 handed weapons in general.

Two builds based around the orc racial ability.
Heavy Berserker. Two-handed, Heavy Armor, Block, Smithing. Grab Volendrung and the heaviest armor you can find, then go crack some skulls.

Pure Berserker. Light Armor, 1-handed (dual axes), Smithing. Savior's Hide and Forsworn boots and gloves, best axes you can get your hands on.

2-handed
Heavy Armour
Smithing
-These are the 3 main components of most orsimer

For RPing-
-Don't use anything from the Mage's or Thief's skills.
-If you want to enchant and alchemize for better weapons, that's acceptable. However, from reading I've found that Orsimer really only smith.

Malacath is the only one that fits for Orsimer.

She Uses Alchemy, Fire spells, summons wolfs and some other tricky things, she has forsworn armor right now and uses an axe. I havent really developed her too much, but shes will be an interesting roleplay. I got her far enough so she can learn more shouts, we'll go from there :P

i want to use alot of frenzy and calm spells on people and animals respectfully. Join the orc strongholds, things like that
