Is Malta the only country in Europe with no snow?

Post » Mon Aug 05, 2013 4:15 am

As far as I know it snows (or has snowed), in every other European country, including smaller countries like Monaco and San Marino.

What other countries of the world have never received snow?

Can we put together a list?

Snowed while in the current state of a nation-state or never snowed period? Or is there a certain time-frame where in which if it hasn't snowed in, it qualifies as having "no snow"?

Then a good many countries in many places that gained independence after the last glacial advancement would qualify.

I dunno, but to me it seems like just a really silly question since in a good many places, at least some time in the past, it's snowed, and some time in the future it'll probably snow again (provided the atmosphere isn't utterly destroyed by something like a GRB).

Nations are much more transient than mother nature.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Malta, there were reports of snow on the ground in Malta a mere two years before it became independent.

The closest thing we have to snow is the usual hale storm around September. We use it to make small "snowmen" in our balconies. We resort to doing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6F5WjMH3Ug when the stuff melts.

Then it's just scorching desert heat.

So it's safe to say; Malta= no snow?

What about Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmay, East Timor and Bangladesh?

In Spain there is no snow either. Not in cities. But there is some in the highest mountains.

Sometimes enough ice gathers in corners that you can create something small for a couple of minutes. Essentially though, it doesn't snow. Not yet in my lifetime anyway.

Here's some kind of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Countries_receiving_snowfall.png, I'm not sure how reliable it is.
And here's a http://www.piste-off.com/world-snow-and-glacier-index.asp Keep in mind that it's not a list of countries with no snow, just with not enough snow for skiing. It might be a good reference point.

A lot of those countries have mountains where it is prone to snow.

It's not so surprising, you just need sufficiently high mountains. Uganda and Congo DR have Rwenzori Mountains if I remember correctly.
