Mana Bug

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 8:25 am

I have a strange bug called: novice level spells flames/ freeze are free..... Flame runes and other spells require mana, but my flame-thrower is free to use.

I aquired it probably after i got the gloves needed for a side quest in the college of wintershold.
I tried to "remove" the bug by reloading my previous save game or load up an auto save. Neither of them worked. Also restarting my whole computer in hope it would be gone is a false hope.

The conclusion is that either i accept this bug. Or start my mage from scratch.

I hope you could help me with fixing this bug.

If you're wearing cost-reducing items but aren't at 100% reduction, the game is probably rounding the spell cost.

If it is indeed a glitch, I'd just ignore it. Novice spells rapidly lose their effectiveness, so at higher levels you won't even be noticing the problem.

You mean those "Mystic Tuning Gloves"? Odd, those don't decrease spellcost.

Double-check your Active Effects / Magic Effects and see if you have anything there that reduces spellcost. Sometimes effects can get "stuck" even though you swapped out the gear long ago.

You probably also have the Novice Destruction Perk which is the very first perk in the Destruction Perk tree, required to get everything else, and that already reduces it by 50%. As said before the game may round down and the Novice spells, especially Destruction which has Magicka-taken-per-second, don't take up much magicka to begin with.

Ok i resolved this by loading a savegame way before i joined the mages guild. It now does not occur.

During that quest a spell is placed on you when you fiddle with the magical pools. It lets your mana recharge while casting and increases your magic regeneration. I've got no idea if it is a bug but it only lasts for a few hours (REAL time, NOT game time).

If the casting cost of one of those flamethrower type spells is lower than your mana regeneration rate, then it won't cost a thing but your mana will recharge slower.
