Mannequins duplicating armor... Can I stop it?

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 11:34 pm

Hey guys, so I just ran into the mannequin armor duping glitch that can occure at times. I originally placed a set of Steel Armor / Steel Shield on one of my mannequins in Honeyside, and the damn thing is constantly respawning it everytime I re-enter the house. I'd love to be able to swap my Steel Armor on display for a set of Steel Plate. Anyone know how to keep this from happening? Sure I can sell the armor after collecting it over, and over and over, but sheesh, this gets tedious.

Thanks for the info guys.

I can't promise this will work for you, but when I experienced this problem I've found that removing the duplicating armor and placing a better (stronger) set of armor sometimes works. In your case, steel plate should be stronger than the regular steel armor, so maybe try that armor on the mannequin that's giving you trouble. It might take several tries for the previous armor to quit duplicating and sometimes existing and re-entering your house helps. With this bug, I think that the mannequins usually will duplicate the first set/type of armor you place on them, which makes it difficult to change if you change your mind about what armor you want placed on it, especially if you want to place a weaker set of armor on a mannequin you that is already glitched with a stronger set.

Hey, thanks for the information blackpete. I've tried the suggestion you mentioned and sadly it doesn't work for me. I've managed to get all but the Steel Armor and Steel Leggings to stop respawning but no matter what I do I can't get them two pieces to stop. I've even tried to replace it with Legendary quality Orc Armor and it didn't fix it. Thanks much for the info though! With luck Bethesda will fix this like they did before hand. Sure it's not a game breaking bug, but it's also not one I'd like to have around forever.

This has worked for me every time needed, I found this on line a while ago, make sure you read the steps carefully and do not deviate.

1) Put 2 of each item that you have been duping into the mannequin's inventory, nothing else. Also, make sure you don't have any more than 4 of each in your own inventory.

2) Leave and re-enter, making sure that when you leave the house, the loading screen shows an image instead of just a black, smoky screen. This ensures that the house (im)properly reloads.

3) Activate the mannequin, and remove one of each item from it's inventory. Without exiting the menu, go to your items and put each one back. WARNING: If you have 6 or more items in your own inventory at this time, it will ask you how many you want to place, and this will cause failure. This is why you can't have more than 4 to begin with.

4) Leave and re-enter, again, making sure that the loading screen shows an image when you leave.

5) Activate the mannequin, and remove all the items from it's inventory, leaving it naked.

6) Leave and re-enter one last time. Again, be sure it reloads the right way. When you go to your mannequin it should still be naked, and will have stopped duping items.

You can now use it as normal, or you can start the glitch again with a new set of items. I've started and stopped this process a total of 5 times as of this post with no lingering glitches. Hope this works as well for the rest of you as it did for me.

Extra Notes - I haven't tried to fix the glitch while having non-glitching items still in the mannequins inventory, nor have I tried it with more than 2 of each item in its inventory. I know for sure that if it asks 'how many' to store, that it will cause the fix to not work, or if you don't get the proper loading screen after removing all the items from the mannequin. There may be more details that I haven't tested that will cause failure, and there may be steps that can be shortened or skipped. Once I found what worked consistently, I didn't care to test it further. Feel free to test it on your own, and please share if you find anything more out

Raiderborn thank you so much for posting that information!!! It worked like a charm! I only managed to get one loading screen that showed the picture, all the others were simply the black fog loading screen and it still worked! Thanks again!!!

No problem, glad it helped.

Edit: Im sure the loading screen with a picture is not needed, I picked up this bug in my Hearthfire home, I just popped down to the basemant where there is no picture screen and it works no problem.

I've had the same issue at Honeyside with one of my characters. I gave up trying to figure it out and just use it as a source of income. I'll try the bug fix that Raiderborn suggests.
