MAP PROBLEMS

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 1:14 am

Hello,

Not long into the game and I am having a small problem with the map.
I am in Whiterun at the moment and I uncovered the local map area, only to find that when I came out of a house back outside, large portions of the map were blacked out.
I am slightly obsessive with the map as I like to uncover them especially in towns, villages etc.,
Any idea why this is happenning?
Cheers
V

I didn't notice this untill i started exploring Blackreach, the underground mushroom place. Thats a very confusing area to explore without a properly "de-fogged" local map. I found myself running in circles because of this problem :( hope its fixed!

Yep, you could toggle fog of war.

It completely removes the "black-out" from the map completely.

It's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1297205-unofficial-buglist/ - was one of my largest pet peeves when I was playing the game at launch. I don't want to remove the fog of war totally - I like using it as a way of knowing where I have and haven't been... but since it keeps "forgetting" areas in seemingly random squares, it makes it fairly unusable for that purpose. Very annoying :(

Exactly. Good to keep track of where you have been.

If its on the official bug list, does that mean it might get sorted?

Despite the unofficial buglist being on it's 4th thread generation, having been compiled since not long after game launch, and feature on page 1 of these forums a vast majority of the time since it first began, there hasn't yet been so much as a wink of acknowledgement from any officials of it's existence.

Fortunately, the creator of the unofficial Oblivion patch has been active on it, and many other mod-makers have also submitted to it and acknowledged it - so even if Bethesda don't, there's a good chance the community will fix it sooner or later, as with most things that get abandoned by Bethesda ;)

Hi. I am new and I joined up just to explore this problem. I recall Morrowind and Oblivion sometimes had a fog of war (FOW) glitch where the game stopped clearing the FOW as you were walking, but this was relatively minor as once FOW was cleared it never returned. Having big black squares of map fog reappear is really annoying. Like you I like to systematically explore the entire map. With large blocks of fog reappearing this is basically impossible.

However, great game Bethesda,. Running perfectly bar this problem!!!

Any news on a bug fix for this? It is so incredibly frustrating to not be able to see all the places you have been. Looking at the net it seems to afflict a lot of Bethesda games. Bethesda is the master of developing beautiful worlds to explore. A fundamental aspect of exploring a world is the map!!! A major detraction from an almost perfect game
