Mass Effect 3, anyone else worried?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:14 pm

I'm a Mass Effect fan, but I'm worried that ME3 will just be a glorified linear third person shooter with RPG elements. Is anyone else worried? The character ranking system is improved but the movement feels bulky and it's still linear.

Thats what mass effect series has always been. Terribly overrated, would be more suitable if it was a movie franchise imo since the story and graphics are the only good thing about the game.

Since I've played neither ME, no.
But I can relate to being worried that I won't like a sequel to a game/series that I've loved. :) Watching all the beta videos & hearing from friends in the beta (among other things) I've decided Diablo3 will not be for me, which makes me sad.

I am because of the drop in gameplay between DA:Origins and DA:2 and I fear ME3 will have the same problem. I also worry how much time they have wasted on that kinect crap rather than just making the game good.

I will get the game anyway because I want to see how the story ends, but I will be waiting for it to drop to around £10 before I buy it I think

I don't know. I seem to think that Mass Effect 2 made a lot of right choices, though some of the things they took away were a bit disappointing. People have said that Mass Effect 2 was nothing more than a glorifed third-person shooter with rpg elements, though I don't agree with this. I think there is a focus placed on combat, but I feel there is a lot of character progression and player choice to be found within the game, so I seem to think they are pretty decent rpgs in that regard. With everything I have been hearing, and what I experienced with the demo, it seems they are trying to bring back some of the missing elements from the first game, so I would like to think that Mass Effect 3 will be better than the second.

That said, I wasn't all that impressed with the demo. While the announcements they made about weapon customization is nice, and I like that they brought a little more decision making in terms of progressing your skills and abilities, it seems they made combat even more fast paced and straight-forward, which does lend itself to the "glorified shooter", thoughts. Still, I am thinking that everything that goes on outside of the combat itself will elevate it above that. I know the second game did that for me.

I quite liked the demo. Apart from the bloody 'lets have the spacebar do EVERYTHING' problem, I haven't seen any major issues with it. Got to just trust them to make a decent game really?

I think maybe they spent to much time mulling over the fact that they could get more sales if they put multiplayer in than working on the game, and that multiplayer is the the ultimate in all gaming.

If they turn it into a "glorified linear third person shooter with RPG elements"... well so what? It's their franchise and they can do whatever they want with it. If they want to release ME3 as a farmville-style facebook game then that's just their choice. Contrary to popular belief; they don't owe the fans anything.

No, I am not. If you don't like Linear you better stop playing Bioware RPGs. That is how they do theirs. And people seem to forget RPG is more than just Stats and Skill Trees, it is also a way of story telling. Mass Effect is unique in that you actually do Role Play by selecting what you want Sheppard to say. I have played the ME3 Demo and it feels just like the past 2 games. The co-op (which is like Horde or FireFight) is amazingly fun, it brings he fun back to that style of co op. I agree with Exorince, they don't HAVE to do anything. It is their work. I really hate how modern gamers have to have every single aspect of a game absolutely perfect otherwise it is a crap game in their eyes.

I've played ME1 and ME2. ME1 I had enjoyed playing, but I tried to restart it twice and I stop playing on the first planet.

ME2 I really enjoyed, but as with ME1, I couldn't replay it. I liked ME2 more than ME1, but it's not as much as an RPG to ME1. It's quite dumbed down, I just enjoyed the character interactions.
