A Mature, horror, AAA bethesda game? Awesome

Post » Mon May 06, 2013 8:24 pm

Great work getting behind Shinji Mikamim I'm looking forward to the gameplay video soon!

I hope its built on your tech5 engine (assuming that is nextgen too), so you can show us how AAA horror survival is really done.

I also hope that you can keep it an authentic mature title as I'm sure it would be a fine line to make it a marketable title, that genuinely does something new and interesting with the space.

Well I'll just have to wait a little more for the gameplay demo then post my thoughts, I'll call this a 'bethesda apprecation thread'.

I'm kinda surprised that with tackling something like a mature horror title you didnt try something innovative like kickstarter, but I guess its probably not going to be extreme enough that you considered this a necessity. (or possibly feared the controversy over established publishers using the kickstarter space i guess).

I also hope that it is truly mature.

We have enough games being identified as Mature that aren't.

What would be even better is if, in addition to a truly "M" game, we got a forum that was rated the same. Not going to happen, I know, but an advlt can dream.

How can you make horror without Mature? I also love its survival & horror game. They go hand to hand very well. Hopefully the main character isnt some super hero (Dead Space fail series.)

There's mature and mature. One involves buckets of blood, a stream of profanity and a parade of lady parts. The other tackles challenging themes, deals with complex characters and is aimed at advlts.

Kind of brought me back to my junior high days, staying up late and catching a Tool music video, and then trying to fall asleep huddled under the covers with the lights on.

Yea, mature topics can be handled immaturely and that's generally what you seem from COD. It's not a horrible thing but I do prefer truly mature content being handled in a mature manner.

I am very much looking forward to this, and hope to see just that, a horror survival meant for a mature audience capable of understanding more than blood

Why can't we get a m rated forum for mature games like this?

My understanding is that it's not necessarily worth the effort of "gating" sections of the sub-forum based on the ESRB rating. I could be wrong on that, though.

What I do know is that few of us moderators are interested in coming up with separate rules for separate sections of the forums, for one. For another, mature topics have in that past only led to pain in tears. This is why we disallow talk of politics, religion, or other controversial subjects. And it's not like the only reason those topics continually failed was because younger kids were getting into them. "Mature" topics would require a certain level of maturity, and that's just a whole lot of moderation trouble, from my standpoint.

I thought that too. For myself I'm not a big survival-horror game fan so I probably won't get this. TES forever ruined me...if its not free-roam open-ended I don't even bother.

Reading that I was at first think what the hell were you doing as a teenager?! Then Tool came into the sentence and it all made sense!
Yeah, I can definitely see where you get that connection there.
I am sort of concerned about what the setting seems to be in this game judging from the teaser trailer....thing, it seems a little..generic. Now, I'm not a fan of horror games and I've never bought a Silent Hill or Resident Evil game in my life (I just don't find them particularly interesting) but if the game's title wasn't there then I could easily mistake this for one of them.

Sometimes a statement comes along that has me wish I wasnt so attached to my signature, so I could have it as one.
This is one of those times.
I wish there were more games of the latter variety, when done right it can be quite enjoyable and also make you think. Like a good advlt fantasy or horror story.

Im quite interested in a horror-survival game made by Bethesda. The trailer looks interesting.
Lets see where this ride goes.

I've got to disagree with you there. I think the title appeared to use more than gore in order to tackle a mature theme.

For instance, we see the initial snippets using symbology, interesting sound and a range of elements to get the thriller/scary element to the game. You might be surprised...

Based on the amount of actual titles already in this genre in recent years... we might see the author attempting a unique take on things which will be refreshing.

EDIT****

Also, i called this game would use the tech5 engine in my post on gamespot the first day of snippet... woo!

Don't really see the point in it. We talk about M rated games all the time on these forums and there is really no reason to post any explicit content.

Yay Tool and also I totally relate. Most of their videos are unbearable. I just get freaked out and confused; even though I have listened to their songs on repeat for a few years continuously.

Anyways I am really interested in this game but more interested in how it will handle a number of things I have not seen. They definitely have the "horrific" content down. Now how are they handling character development, narrative, plot, originality, etc?

This could have intrigued a hell of a lot more people if it was an open world survival horror game RPG. As well as a character we make ourselves, its what the people really want.
