Mechanical Help

Okay. The 3rd Nine Weeks kinda started for me now and I need to create a Mechanical Object of some sort that is realistic and actually has some history... Problem is, I'm into Medieval and Fantasy type of stuff... And I really know almost nothing about Mechanical Objects and don't know where to begin on this... I really just know how to use the newer technology very well (Mainly computer programs and such).

What I am doing is basicly, I have Nine Weeks to look up this object and research the object's history for part of the project AND look up every single part of the object and each part's dimensions so I can make the object myself on AutoCAD and then animate it on 3DS... Like I said before, I know really almost nothing about Mechanical items and need some help on what would be best for me to do without being too easy but at the same time, ain't impossible for me to do. Also, any tips you can give on Mechanical parts like screws, gears, bevels, etc would be helpful.

Thank you for reading and have a good day.

How about a pulley? It is a simple machine after all.

What do you mean by mechanical object? Just anything with multiple parts and that uses energy?

Too simple. Already been done.

I mean actually objects that uses Mechanical energy and such. Heck, one of my teacher's example was a 'Transformer'... Another would be a clock. But someone already done a clock so someone else doing it again wouldn't really be interesting.
