Medical marijuana bill passed onto the senate in I

Post » Fri Apr 19, 2013 1:04 pm

Here's an interesting bit of news that isn't inherently depressing: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-04-17/news/chi-illinois-house-debates-medical-marijuana-20130417_1_medical-marijuana-bill-medical-use-lou-lang the senate has passed bills like this before and it is usually the house of representatives that denies them. Edit: meant to be IL for Illinois.

Interesting. Weed does have medical uses after all.

Let's try to keep this as bipartisan as possible please, you can share your opinion respectfully without bringing politics into this.

While I disagree with the legalisation of drugs, I can only say this thread is bound to trouble. Political threads of ANY kind in any way always do turn to warring.

Pretty sure this topic is a no-no as it is very political.

To start the trend.

This is the legalization of medical and regulated marijuana. Not quite the same. Besides even if it was statewide legalization it isn't the legalization of drugs. It is one drug. There are multiple legal drugs on the market regularly sold to the public with practically no real limitations imposed upon them. Marijuana is easily the most unfairly demonized drug.

It will be interesting (if passed) to see how long it takes for attitudes towards maurijuana to change, if indeed they do at all.

On the topic of the legalisation of drugs, I think that is too broad a terminology, Alcohol and caffeine are 'technically' drugs and they are legal, and many prescription drugs have side effects that would probably make them illegal if they were the primary effects. It is an interesting topic, and sad that it is impossible to discuss because some people feel too strongly about the topic to have a civil discussion about it.

This is just one step away from being legalized for recreational uses, that is what has me most excited, second to the people now recieving the treatment they need.
