Megaserver & Oceanic Players: How will this work?

Post » Sat Aug 03, 2013 3:42 am

Ok, so I love everything I have seen/heard about the game, especially the latest buffet of news and tidbits coming out of PAX.. the only thing that was addressed early on but hasn't reared it's head lately is how Megaserver will work for Oceanic (Aus/NZ) Players.

Matt Firor did some interviews with TV3 here in New Zealand on primetime news even and said they wanted to make it work (latency wise) for the TESO players in Australasia, but it would be excellent to know if this is by way of server nodes in Aus/NZ (as part of Megaserver, there are bound to be multiple nodes to cover the globe properly surely?) or if there is actually just one giant node (unlikely though right?), will the US Megaserver be on the West Coast at least, as that would still work ok for us, giving about a 120ms latency which is good enough for me in PvP (although localised nodes would obviously be optimal).

Oceanic players, the more Zenimax/Bethesda know we are vocal and excited by this; the more likely it is we will get a more satisfying solution!

Looking forward to TESO like a kid waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve... so hyped!

IST.

and here I was, worried that it would be East coast (where Zenimax is) making a tiny bit of extra ping where I live (Anchorage Alaska, a west coast server usually has about 54ms latency/ping)...
Or it would be west coast, and when I likely move to the East coast in a few year's i would have the same problem...

Way to make me feel like mr first-world problems haha

I'm hoping they can somehow do multiple nodes, but I have no idea how server technology works. TBH, as long as the server is in America and I live in America I should have less than 80ms latency/ping... So I should shut up, eh?

If the servers are on the East Coast, we are basically violated in the bottom (in a metaphorical fashion), so I pray to the Nine that this isn't so.. anyone know if they have mentioned if the US Megaserver will be West/East coast by chance?

I assumed Zenimax was on the West Coast.. now I actually am worried, yikes. /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

hope they have some sub servers close to the Oceanic players, even though am on east coast some of the coolest players I play with/meet are from NZ, AUS, some tiny island in Guam etc.

If it makes you feel any better, Bioware Austin (SWTOR) is in Texas... and their biggest server (the Harbinger) is a West Coast server... They don't have servers in central/south... So, where the developer is doesn't seem to dictate where they put their server. I am hoping the Server is central, but thats just me.

I can't find the posting sadly. I read in one review thread that there would be several MegaServers. I think one was US/UK. Another was Central Europe etc. Of course, I can't confirm the accuracy of the article, or where the other servers were supposed to be.

Who knows - if they receive 15 million pre-orders they may decide to place a couple more, if indeed there are more than one.

Oceanic players should do fine in PvE. Some of the Oceanic realms do very well in WoW progression raiding for instance. But 250-400ms lag plus 200 players on the screen plus a system with no cooldowns on attacks plus animation priority (based on one nethead's review) means you guys will be at a severe disadvantage in massed PvP.

Your best hope is that ZOS puts servers on the west coast to chop off 80ms to 150ms from the latency but it's not looking good. As Matt Firor said in the MMORPG vid, East Coast ftw. Or maybe he was talking about March Madness hehe.

It will be very disappointing if they don't add and Oceanic server. Has anyone heard any news?

The "Megaserver" isn't one giant server, but a network of servers combined into a single logical unit. Their placement will undoubtedly be in more than one location in the US.
