Megaserver ruining PvP?

Post » Tue Jul 16, 2013 4:55 am

So I was wondering if the megaserver might ruin pvp because I heard that the way it works is the megaserver has people all on 1 server but in different worlds sort of like parallel universes and it might merge these worlds together or split them if they become overcrowded or maybe even change which world you are in.

Then I believe there are different forts and things that you can capture for your alliance with your buddies so my question is if I capture a fort with my friends could I get thrown into a world where that fort wasnt captured anymore ruining all of our work?

I mean if i get thrown into a different world that fort was never captured right?

I dont know if there is anybody who can answer this question on this forum because I just signed up like 5 minutes ago but if you know the answer please respond thanks.

How much about the megaserver did you actually read?

Simply put, no. You will always be with your friends, as long as they are your friends. The game will work to make sure you aren't split up.

No. If you capture a keep, it won't suddenly be in anyone elses possession unless they take it from you.

Think about it this way, if you owned a keep, and then it got swapped to another campaign where someone else owned it, who owns it? They'll be in their campaign, and you'll be in yours. Your keep isn't going to be owned by someone on another plane of the server.

Instantions system is imo bad idea. If some area is full and you can't exp or do quest there you can simply change instantions for #4 Area... Then HOW person who will be King of Cirodiil can be the ruler of Tamriel?? How can He and his ?guild? chase the enemys if they can run by changing instantion? How they can controling the Tamriel? Instantion system ruin all role play and PvP. Also The Ruler will have no power only title.

Hmmm maybe the megaserver doesnt change the areas with forts that you can capture.

Since the megaserver can make different worlds for separate areas maybe the places with forts is always 1 world that would make sense that way it is always 1 giant tug of war between the 3 alliances not a bunch of separate tug of wars going on in different worlds.

Campaigns are done over the course of a period of time, maybe a month or something. It fits everyone into a campaign. You're stuck in that campaign until it ends, mostly. You're able to switch campaigns at a cost of some kind, but you won't be able to just flip around campaigns whenever you want.

So basically once you're in a battle, you're there til its over, or you sacrifice your rank to move to another.

When you say campaigns do you mean the single player story mode or the fight for power between the alliances until one wins?

The fight between factions in Cyrodiil. Not sure what the main story would be called, figure we just call it "the main story" for now. As far as the non-Cyrodiil areas go, it'll be sort of similar in that you'll be grouped with players that are on your friends list or you've also got a likemind with (via the survey you'll fill out when rolling your character).

Trust me homie, I'm a *doctor. PvP is my main concern in an MMO, I wouldn't be here if it was going to be lame.

*Not really a doctor.

Where did u hear this? Beta leak? This doesnst sound at all, what they've told to us, BUT I see its possible but I doubt. They've spoke about persistent campaigns, you're assigned to it, until someone wins it, then it ends, in the meanwhile you can switch between campaigns but it cost you alliance points.

Speaking of megaserver, it just helps the entire game tbh. I bet all triple A MMORPGs after this uses megaserver. Basically benefits are just too big. Only complaint of megaserver was it destroyes community especially server community, but thats easily solved with chat system, good extensive chat system and your community is stronger than ever before.

Wrong wrong and wrong.

Cyrodiil Realm vs Realm vs Realm wars are in around 2000 player instances. Lets say a battleground but AV x 1000 size.(or more) with quests for PvP PvE and public dungeons x20 , raid dungeons x n+ +NPC keeps +Player "guild" tagged keeps (the ones they conquer) NPC friendly guards that you can feed, gear up and train.

Cyrodiil is huge. and when i say huge i mean bigger then you think. (devs have told us multiple times that we really have no clue how big it is :) )

Now, the King, who ever that might be, will be King by name and will get some cool Abilities that only the King will have. (confirmed those abilities we has)

The thing is though just because you capture something in a game like ESO does not mean you get to keep it for any length of time, unless you continually defend that position. In DAoC you might have logged off and gone to sleep with the enemies relics secured in your relic Keep only to wake up and log back on to discover that they had come after you all had logged off and taken them back and then mounted a raid to take your relics after that.

So you went to bed dreaming of all of the bonuses your realm would get from the relics you stole, only to wake up and find out it was all just a nightmare because now you don't have those enemy relics and not only that you need to start to make plans to get your own relics back. In DAoC you could not steal enemy relics unless you had your own in their rightful place, so first you would need to go get yours back and then keep going and start a raid to steal the enemy relics.

Nothing was certain in DAoC and I am really hoping its all the same in ESO and even more challenging then it was years ago when I played DAoC.

Of course in ESO we can substitute the relics for Elder Scrolls.....

I think it will not destroy PvP but it will stop the growing of enemies. What i mean by that is that you are not playing vs the same persons over and over, so you never know the others players.

Yeah i knew that people could steal the forts back from us I just thought that the progress we had made would somehow get ruined by the megaserver switching stuff.

The way I understand it is when you first go to Cyridiil you are assigned to a campaign. Once assigned that's your campaign until you switch or forever. They stated that when the campaign ends it doesn't reset all the keeps just the point tally resets and you go from there. So unless ppl switch you will be grouped in the same campaign with roughly the same 2000 ppl.

I might be wrong but that's what I got from some of the videos I saw.

Nope you are absolutely correct. You get assigned to a campaign and you are stuck to that particular campaign till you decide that you want to move to another one. If you are sick and tired of fighting the same people over and over again in the same campaign (I don't think I'd feel that way you build a community that way and you can also build rivalries between certain people), than just switch to another campaign and you will have a whole new 2000 players you have never faced before.

You can tag friends in your friends list, who are we to say that we cant TAG a clan/guild as our hostile list, thus making us end up always in same Cyrodiil with em ;)

Megaserver is also be ruining RP with its forced faction "loyalty".

Well, he might be refering to this game not having any pvp specific servers, and that resolves in not being able to pvp in other faction territories. The devs usually point this out as "faction pride". Still I would not have used that as an example since it is a bit vague.

He's talking about RP not PvP. Pretty sure he's saying that the megaserver was the reason for faction locks. Which isn't true at all.

Now if he meant something else then I will take back my comments and hope he will clarify what he meant.
