I just hit level 32 and I'm wondering if I should get it.

I like it myself but you do have to be aware of your surroundings and range vs enemies. In a close quarter fight it can be a problem at times, but even with that issue I still like the perk. It is useful to take a minor in a close range fighting skill such as Unarmed or Melee Weapons. You don't have to do this, mind you, but it eliminates any concerns about self-immolation. Anything that charges you and makes it into your personal space, just whip out your trusty knife or fist weapon and you'll be golden. Most enemies tend to not make it into close range vs you on a proper Energy Weapons build in my view, but ymmv on that one.

Still, even with those concerns there's nothing quite like using a single precise sniper shot to cause a massive chain reaction that takes out a half dozen Fiends milling around.

It does major damage, and can clear a room with one shot. Bad thing is it does major damage to you too, and if you have Veronica or Rex as a companion it kills them too often make it a good idea. So, for a lonesome Energy Weapon Sniper it's the perfect perk :D

I had fun with it and I think it's a good one to try out. I've always liked fireworks. :)

I liked it tbh, found it very usefull.
Making a Sneak build may conflict as you need to move about with this perk.
Also it will make ED-E glitch if he dies while in the blast radious, if not playing hardcoe keep an eye out.

Dear god yes. I cleared out all of camp searchlight with
Spoiler
just a recharger pistol

All thanks to that perk.
Now add a gatling laser, and several cazadors flying close together. Its awesome.

With some really good guns Holorifle+++ which just one shots things, it sorta became a scoped grenade launcher, I point somewhere and thatarea explodes... Its amazing.

I've been wary of this perk myself. Main reason being that I never liked the idea of how it would work against me in interior spaces. This is especially the case since Energy Weapon Builds I've built revolve around critical chance a lot. Maybe when Dead Money comes around, since I have no intentions of getting a level cap increase mod due to a XP reducer mod, I'll think about taking it.

I used it the first three times through. It is an awesome perk (meaning awww, I just blasted myself again)

I'm over it now. Just like the Mysterious Stranger. I recommend that you take it though, just to experience it. Have a good shotgun, though, for interiors. I prefer the Riot Shotgun.

I picked it up at level 34 and am loving it. Awesome perk makes my laser rifle feel like a missile launcher, and I love the way they chain reaction explode and take out groups.
I never seemed to take much damage from a close kill, but I do switch to unarmed for close combat and both companions attack at range.

Fighting in the Thorn, one shot took out 3 giant rad scorpions.
For Silver Rush, I killed the door guard causing four guards to exit outside. All clumped up at the door, and I killed one while the explosion took out the other three.
Sneaked up on a pack of nightstalkers, one critical shot took them all out. Couldn't seem to find all the bodies afterward so that is a drawback.
