Merchant stock and funds exploit

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:02 am

I figured this out 2 nights ago and have been exploiting the hell out of it. In past elder scrolls i would always save before entering a shop. This would allow me to enter amd see what they have to offer and if it wasnt to my liking i would load the save and view their inventory again until there was something worth buying. Now... Its not the case with Skyrim. If i would load the previous save the merchants items reverted back to a previous time where many of the items ive sold them are in their stock and whatever i bought is no longer there either. Hmm...

Anyway. Ive found a way to be able to reload their stock with new items and restore their septim funds for bartering.

Ill give you an example of what i am currently doing:
i have about 200 enchanted iron daggers and i need giants toes and daedra hearts.
Im in whiterun.

I walk into belathors general goods. See what hes got for sale. (im usually looking for enchanted rings and neclaces) regardless of whether he has anything i want, i sell as many daggers as he can possibly buy with his limited funds.
I exit out of the conversation.
I then save the game right in front of him.
I exit the game. (in my case i exit back to the dashboard-xbox)
I start the game, load my save, and voila.
Belethor now has new stock and his funds are back.
I check his stock.
I sell more daggers or whatever.
Rinse, repeat.

Now i have enough dough for my toes and hearts.
I head over to whats her face right next door to belethor...(only reason i know this particular name so well is cuz his man servent continuously tells me he works for belethor down at belethors general goods) lol.
I check her stock.
Buy whatever i need.
Save, exit, load, repeat.

So, as you can see, this can be very, very useful to many of you for whatever reason.

I also save before entering cave and forts and such. Run in, dont bother with enemies, look in all chests, and reload if there is nothing good. Lol. Ive been doing that less and less now that im sportin some sixy equipment, but...

You may notice im a bit ocd... Especially with elder scroll games... Damn you games with random loot!!! ...im sorry... You know i know i love you...

Anywhos,
This has been confirmed by me. On xbox 360. Patch 1.1.
I havent yet installed the newest patch cause i havent had any issues with it except for some dragons nOT becoming HOSTILE!!! but... Its cool. I will eventually install them.

Enjoy people... If you can. I had to spread the word about this.
Oh! And also... You may not know this. And i did not learn this myself. I read in some forum a while back. But its good to know.
When you mine, exit the animation after the first ore aquired. Then start again, exit and start again. You get 3 ores instead of just 2. Lovely..

Peace.

This game is already too easy without having to exploit it. Besides, PC users can just bring up the console (~) and type 'player.additem #'. Theres a few item code lists floating around on the net. If you're gonna cheat might as well do it the easy way. ;)

Or, you can wait in front of the merchant for 48 hours and have their stock get swapped out and money refreshed. I used to reload, but it's sooooooooooo much faster just to wait two days than to exit out and reload the game.

As far as the console commands... Thats a blatant cheat that takes the fun out of the game. Id never do that. Except ofcourse to fix a broken quest due to a bug or something. The waiting is a great way, i know. However i dislike waiting. Id rather roam the land for two days instead of waiting. Also, i dont want all those days passing, missing the seasons and things. Idk. I just thought id post this for the people that are like me. Lol.
