Mercy - I submit! ... not!

So just by the title, I'm sure most of you who have played Skyrim know what I'm talking about. Get an enemy down to really low health and they submit. Except they don't, and then keep fighting you, forcing you to kill them.

Wouldn't it be so neat if for TES:O (and other future TES games for that matter), you actually could get enemies to disperse, run away, or even arrest them? Or perhaps even, just as companions in the game, if they are killed, they enter an "unconscious"-ish state where you can decide what to do with them after combat is over.

What are your thoughts on non-lethal solutions to physical confrontations?

Those fist fights could go the duration. It will really be tough to make each players choices be seen without effecting others. Phasing might end being too heavy just like Wrath of the Lich King in Icecrown >.>. I prefer simple, beat someone up, get 10 gold then tell them to screw off.

Yea, that would be cool, another example would be to capture them and torture them for infor for like a quest or something, or give them some kind of truth syrum that forces them to talk.

Yes, I always would like to see more non-lethal solutions in gaming...it doesn't happen so often.

The cowardly start running, they drop some items pack or gold pouch. Not as much as if you kill them...but enough to reward.
Or the opposite side, try to bribe them to leave you alone.

I like your unconsciousness idea.
Knock out rather than killing, can get a gold bonus for 'turn in',
Or reputation for letting them live - chance that the type of enemy will leave you alone in the future.

Would be cool for bounty hunter quests where the reward for bringing them in alive is different from the one for delivery of the head.
