Met My First Deathclaws and Super Mutants

Post » Fri Sep 26, 2008 11:09 am

. . . and on that note I am done for the day. I just started playing today and have been playing for about 5 hours straight. I am on lvl 7 or 8. I am using the Weathered 10mm, 9mm, Single Shotgun, I have a 9mm submachinegun too... (my Gun stat is on 60 I believe) but I don't know if they are the best choice of weps. What are some better weapons or Mods that I can add to the ones that I have, and where to get them from.

all this being said is it possible for me to beat deathclaws and the super mutants efficiently? Any suggestions?

At level 8? Lolno. Go the other way, they'll kick your ass. There is little to no level scaling in New Vegas, so things aren't weaker at lower levels, just you.

You... Need... To... Destroy them... LEEEEEEEROOOOOOY JEEENKINS!!!! (Yes I love that guy)
Seriously though, you expect to be able to face super mutants and deathclaws at lvl 8 with a weathered 10mm pistol?
... There's a reason they're called "super" mutants and "Deathclaws". :P

Deathclaw: 10ft. tall bipedal reptile with devil horns, unobtainium-plated skin, and claws as long as an arm.
You expect that to be killed by a 10mm pistol? LOL, wait until you get a .50 Anti-Materiel Rifle

Nope you will need some better fire power if you want to take down super mutants and deathclaws at lvl 8. Even then you don't want to attract more then one at a time.

Exciting, isn't it? :D You do need better weapons. Did you go to Primm? Did you fight the convicts? One of them has

an Incinerator.

The Weathered 10 is actually a pretty good sidearm. You need better ranged weapons. Good mid-level rifles are Cowboy Repeater and Hunting Rifle. I would suggest you do this:

Turn around and go south. They put the deathclaws and mutants up there because they don't want you going there yet. Oblidge them. Head down Primm way, check the good folks at Mojave Outpost and make your way around to Novac. You will then have 4 pretty good weapons vendors at your disposal. Here is a rough list of (imo) decent weapons (you didn't mention what type of build you were going for, but since you said guns, I'll stick with that) and their essential mods:

Mid level:
Cowboy Repeater w/ ext. mag and fast action
Hunting rifle w/ fast action, scope and ext. mag.
Weathered 10mm w/ ext. mag, laser sight and silencer
.357 Magnum w/ long barrel and HD cylinder
9mm SMG w/ light bolt and drums
Hunting shotgun w/ ext. mag and choke
Lever-action Shotty. (no mods)

And my personal early-mid game favorite: Varmint Rifle with night scope, ext. mag and silencer.

This isn't in the spoilers section, so I can't tell you where to find this stuff early, but I can give you the link to the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_weapons. You're welcome in advance.

One more piece of advice: Keep 'em repaired, and feed 'em with the best ammo you can find. Better yet, get your repair up to 50 and you can make even better ammo. I'm sure I forgot some stuff, but I'm sure everyone will put in their two cents.

Yup...find some other weapons. Good weapon+good ammo=can kill them even at lowish-mid chr. levels depending on skills.

That said, it IS possible to kill them (one at a time) with some of the "weaker" weapons via starting from a long distance away and backpedaling (don't use VATS), but definitely not recommended for low-levels.

Abilene Kid LE BB gun + 50 sneak + 60 guns + Cowboy Perk = Lots of dead Deathchickens + tons of fun. Just don't let them catch ya in the open. :flamed:

At level 8, with skill tactics and luck a single deathclaw or even super mutant master at can be taken down by these weapons fairly easy ( difficult but not impossble depending on gun skill. )

1. Sneaking a Scoped, silenced Varmit rifle with either AP or .223 rounds at 60+ skill.

2. A cowboy repeater will work quite well, 60+ skill but higher the better.

3. Caravan shotgun loaded with slugs and shotgun surgeon at 60+, have 7+ dex and rapid reload and you stand a fair chance, add a sneak crit you stand a good chance.

The shotgun is by far the most damaging but requires getting closer.

The best tactic at this level is use 2+ placed mines to cripple legs, stand on a out of reach area and snipe, or drug up and go for the eyes ( I mean head ).

Repair at 50 allows the creation of 'Weapon Repair Kits' from very common stuff. A fine and cheap way to repair expensive weapons.

You need to gather the items for crafting Weapon Repair Kits at a Workbench. Repair Skill of 50 required.
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_repair_kit

■Duct Tape x1
■Scrap Electronics x1
■Scrap Metal x2
■Wonderglue x1
■Wrench x1

It'll help a lot. :)

Oops, sorry. Didn't see that this was posted.

I'm absolutely OCD about looking for this stuff. I see some scrap metal and squeal in glee like a little girl. But one point, I think: I'm not certain, but completely broken weapons (like the OPs incinerator) can't be fixed with kits. You gotta equip the item to fix it and you can't equip a broken item, right? I suggest you find a crappy repair vendor. A low repair skill vendor charge you less for a repair than a 100 repair vendor. Then you could finish the repair with kits. Off the top of my head, I think there's a low repair skill vendor up the road from Novac at the 188.

If your on 360 get dead money. You get the BAR an amazing gun, holorifle amazing when fully modded, and it makes me look at my character and say "WHHHHYYYYY" because repair is useless. You can trade ciggarette cartons and packs for chips, and get atleast 12000 in one run. Then trade chips for repair kits, you get 1000 every 3 days. Meaning infinate easy repair kits that pretty much respawn. Totally made my 90 repair useless.

I knew they'd unbalance something with the DLC. :meh:
Anyway, maybe the price for repair kits should be raised after completion of the DLC? (So that they are easy to get inside the DLC since it's a limited amount of chips available there but cost a lot more after completion in order so that we don't spam them.)

My Uncle bought the Dead Money DLC, and it worked for my Profile too but I don't know EXACTLY what it is ... do i trade the ciggarette cartons and packs at a specific place, or will i just know when I get there. ( I is new player... lol :-P )

And did you mean 1000 Repair Kits in three days?! or a 1000 caps in 3 days...lol

wow it changes "n.0.0.b" to "new player"... lol

There are venders in Dead Money and one after you complete the DLC where you can trade in cigarette packages for Sierra Madre Casino Chips which you can trade in for a lot of stuff including repair kits.
You get 1100 casino chips every other or every third day in a lockbox after completing the DLC.
