Nothing has ben announced so far regarding payment as far as I'm informed. But from the looks of things it will most likely be subscription based, so no micro-transactions. I think even B2P is more likely than F2P with Micro-Transactions.

There likely won't be micro-transactions initially as this game doesn't seem to be going the F2P route. That being said, even many P2P games typically implement some form of micro-transactions later in development after release. So, I wouldn't really be surprised if they came eventually, but I doubt they will be there from the start.

I like myself, buy the game and sub + shop. (xp-boosters, basically anything what help with progression and grind). Too early to say anything really, if its another 2-3 month game, why to even bother with sub fees.

There are all sorts of models they could use, and I've always been satisfied with each type I've experienced. The thing to remember with microtransactions though is not to market power or money - only aesthetics or convenience.

Housing would be a nice thing to market, as it could actually get them to implement housing if they stand to make some money..

P2P games that have micro transactions? Never heard of them except vanity items. Once it goes F2P then they will implement micro.

I figure they will launch with a subscription and a microtransaction store that would offer services like character respecs, additional character slots and such, and cosmetic items like alternate art for armor and clothing that do not alter stats.

After they cover development expenses and hit whatever profit milestone they set, they will likely add the option to access the game for free. At this point I would expect their MT-store to start offering things of more substance. Not necessarily power items that make it into "pay to win," but convenience items like xp accelleration. I would prefer a model close to what Turbine did with Lord of the Rings Online. It's typically called "Freemium" membership.

With free to play, expect every aspect of the game to have a monetization hook in it. You won't be required to pay a dime, but there will be things you may not mind paying for to access. Personally speaking, they can monetize everything, just so long as I get to choose when I get charged and what I want to be charged for.

This is why I am hoping that new playable content will come in the form of paid quest unlocks. Mini-expansions some people call them. If they price them fairly and roll them out often enough, they can make a killing.

And above all else, it's all about one thing: Making money. Ultimately they will do whatever will make them the most money.

If lifetime subbies mean all the micrtransactions goodies and expansions are free count me in (depending on a reasonable price)

I for one hate F2P and micro transactions, here's to hoping it only uses subs to keep the riff raff out.

In my extensive MMO experience over the last 15 years, the riff-raff come in regardless of the business model. The only reason why you see more bad eggs in F2P games is because there are more people over-all.

I play currently play Star Trek Online and Lord of the Rings Online, both of which are F2P, and I haven't seen anything particularly different about the kind of people I see now from the kind I saw when both games were subscription-based. Our experience in an MMO is what we make of it. I play my way, and others play theirs... The most important piece of advice I can give is always remember, it's just a game...

Actually in my view the bolded, underlined part is very important here. Those games that went from subscription to F2P + Micro-Transaction (and in most cases still offer subscription as an option) are about the only acceptable F2P models, because you don't see P2W happening in those. The majority of F2P games that were developed as F2P are pure and simple a P2W style rip off. This is why I generally dislike F2P. If you want to achieve something and compete on a fair level with others that is comparable to sub-based games you end up paying way more money per month as you would for a sub. To some it is enough to just click away some time, so for them it's great that the base game is for free. Problem is: Those that take a competitive approach at MMOs and search their fun in PvP usually are paying for those that truely play for free (as in don't leave money in the shop).

I again think devs just should add that shop, then its done and people get over it. Servers are going to be full first 4 month, better take their money via shop. I really think devs should start working on that shop right now if they already arent. Totally optional + convenient shop anything between 1-100 bucks, that should do.

We are never going to see triple A MMORPG ever, if sub fees go away. No one want to come to this genre because its so huge gamble and proftis are small, hell we needed to whine good while to get ES MMO.

That's not entirely true. TES:O is in development since 2005 they started right after WoW became big and BEFORE Oblivion was out. I'm sure the whish of fans for a TES MMO is not much older. Actually they listened to us before we started to voice that desire really loud.

I think you're correct. That still would be before Oblivion got released.
